Early on we had Cunia, then came Power Plant, then later Witchdoctor.  Is there one bull that stands out today?  All we see coming on board are the Heat Wave sons and derivatives.  I am in texas so the bull would need to be thick as hell.

Tyson seems to be putting plenty of mass in his calves, along with a great show look.  An even bigger plus is you don't have to deal with the PHA or TH issues like most clubby sires.

What about calving ease.  Do you think Tyson would be okay to use on some SimAngus heifers?

Yes, unless they are uncharacteristically small.  He is considered to be relatively safe for heifer breeding.

If you have the cash, use Ali.

Tyson's look really good to me. Structurally they look really sound and the ones I have seen travel freely. His females should prove to be good being backed up by his super mother.

Thanks, I have already bought the Tyson semen.  Probably couldn't afford Ali for heifers...maybe a flush on the right cow.

Overall, I would say Tyson is a moderate birth weight bull.  We got along fine on a first calf heifer with him, but we did have a larger calf out of a mature cow.  The Ali pedigree sure helps the birth weight factor.  I will say that everything I have seen out of him have had a nice smooth shoulder, and that makes as much of a difference on calving ease as birth weight alone.

We had the Jr. Calf Champion Maine Bull at the Ft Worth Stock Show with a Tyson son, and Core's high selling heifer this year was a Tyson out of a Hardcore daughter, who was a proven heifer in the showring.  Steer wise, Chambero here on Steerplanet, had a very nice Tyson steer that did very well at the Jackpot's this year here in Texas.

Yes.  people are breeding Heat wave as they did Heat Seeker, Full Flush, Full throttle, and before that Sugar ray...there is no standout maine bull today as before that worked on many different cows...

I really like the Premium Blend calves I've seen.  I may be tempted to try him this year.  I think he'll go nice on my Gigolo Joe's and Money Man cows

OK now I need clarification....are you calling Heatwave a clubby Maine bull?  To me they need to be at least 3/4 to be a "Maine", so you're asking about a different subset of bulls.

No, I am not calling Heat wave a maine bull...that is why I am asking where is the maine bull that is carrying the torch for Power Plant, Cunia and the bulls of the past.  It appears to me there is no clear leader anymore...Tyson, Hardcore, Ali are all we have it seems...maybe there is some bull that has not been promoted out there?i am thinking 5/8 maine at a minimum and no chi preferably.

With limited viewings, this is what impresses me about the Tyson's. He has the ability to downsize and thicken them up as well as most bulls. After some more calf crops I think he will be remembered for throwing soundness and structural integrity. Not saying there won't be any, but I have yet to see one that is too straight. He probably is not the calving ease specialist of his sire. Saying that, I don't think he is going to be a hard calving type bull either. He is thicker ended then Ali or Hardcore and does a good job putting into his calves. I will not be surprised if we see a Tyson calf winning a major steer show. It will be interesting to see how his females do . JMO.

It seems on this board that Tyson is the Best Maine bull available today.  You sure do not hear much about him here if that is the case...all we hear is about Heat Wave and his sons...makes you wonder??  Are we all missing the boat on Tyson?  Is he way under used?  When we use to use Power Plant, you had a great shot at steers, bulls, or heifers that would make great cows.  Do we have that with heat wave and his sons?  I am just posing the question.  Could Tyson steers bring as much as heat wave?
