What to use?

I was wondering what everyone puts down for a good and inexpensive base in there cattle pens.  I built a new barn last fall and I am currently just using it for my cows but I have kids that will be showing in a few years.  Any help would be appriciated.  Thanks!

I use lime in mine - it helps with the amonia from urine and when you clean the barn you can spread it on your fields along with the manure and bedding and just replace the little that you hauled out after you're done. RW

PS - when it's packed it gets almost as hard as concrete.
