I for one respect Jasons' decision for removing the thread for no other reason that like what knabe said "liabilty".I personally haven't used the bull & don't plan on it. Not because of rumors, but because he just doesn't produce the calves for the most part that work in my program. I may come across 1 one day I may think might. Who knows? With that being said, I also think that if it is true than yes it could hurt people that unknowingly use him. By the same token , if it's not true then it could hurt some people financially and keep people from using him that he might help. Like TGC said, removing the thread isn't going to stop the rumors but it will cover Jasons' rear end on a liability issue. I personally would hate to see this website shut down or the threads monitored even closer for content.
I geuss time and samples will tell in time.
Will , I geuss you are a better man than me, because I wouldn't have wasted my time having a discussion with someone that didn't have the gonads to say who it was. I will discuss any of my statemants with anyone at anytime, but if you call me than obviously you know who I am, so at least have the courtesy to tell me who you are.

I also agree that the topic should have been taken down, and now this topic should be taken down since a name of a bull has been mentioned. My opinion is if you want to name bulls then send your buddies a personal message but stating the name of a bull on a public forum in that context is not very professional in my opinion unless the information is determined to be decisive. The ASA has to take the stance that they have taken because that is the only one they can take until the protocals have been completed and the information is decisive. Now, on the other hand, if it does turn out that a specific bull has a major defect and the owners knowingly covered up the defect then a lot of people may have a case against them for fraud. You would have to have proof and that would be hard to gain. Lets be clear, I am just stating my thoughts and this has nothing to do with any individuals or individual bulls. This could be applied to any bull including my own.

I have been giving him a dose of his own medicine... he starts screaming in horrible english about what my deal is....  lol.

I thought I would beat someone to the punch.  Is it deleted? No...I would say it went into seclusion.

First and foremost, I appreciate the discussion.  The problem with rumors is well there rumors, unsubstantiated information that could be proved true or false.  The problem is if they are false, you can't go back an undo the damages caused.  SP has a pretty good following, even though we haven't seen participation go up as much, the amount of visitors have nearly doubled every year (37k unique visitors the last 30 days).  Lots of lurkers out there that intently read every topic.

If someone provides a documented firsthand proof, I have no problem with them posting and the discussion thereafter.  I went through the aforementioned thread and was unable to see where there was any burden of proof and in my estimation it would not be prudent to keep the thread active.  I will be reiterate, the thread has not been deleted, but it has been moved where it is not publicly accessible.

*************UPDATED*************

Statement from ASA regarding the rumor.

"The American Shorthorn Association (ASA) takes allegations of genetic defects or birth abnormalities very seriously, working with industry experts to research, diagnose, and develop testing procedures if deemed necessary. To our knowledge, there has never been a case of "Mulefoot" reported to the ASA, nor are there any known carriers in the ASA herd book. We strongly urge that accusations of genetic defects be based on science, not rumor. Several cases of anomalies at birth have been reported to the ASA in recent years, later to be diagnosed as nutritional deficiencies or other developmental problems. Breeders are reminded that countless things can go wrong in the fetal development process due to nutrition, environment, genetics, or any combination thereof. The ASA asks that all breeders report any anomalies at birth directly to the ASA and promises to diligently research and report on any suspect cases it receives in a timely manner."
Thanks Jason.  Enough said.  :)

If I had a bull with that crap, I would own up immediately.  knabe I heard you owned a bull with the  "no libido" defect

Snipers in the trees eventually get shot themselves. Just because Brock may have miffed you about something you can't throw spurious allegations to try and tarnish his reputation.

Cattlefarmer........in some ways I think they have to procede with caution on things. There have been examples where a bull was to have sired a calf and it was actually sired by a neighbors bull. Or a cow might show a sire in her pedigree that was wrong in some kind of goof up. Two calves switched by two cow that laid down and calved by each other. In the th and pha deal the two defects were confused with each other. Nutritional defiencent cies for an area and what not. I think they like to get large numbers and a pattern down before anything is decided for sure. It is dang frustrating though with breeding season coming on .  I watched the th deal play out and it took time. That proccess was amazing to me.
