White heifer you bought I thought looked good.  I bid on the red Waco bred but she brought more I was looking to spend. The Rewind bull was pretty nice too- plenty of others thought so as well as he brought $10K.

I didn't pay attention to this sale very much. Has he got any new blood in there bull wise?

The lot 30 was a good bull- sired by Studer's Rewind *x4163921  and then the WHR Code Red *x4142024 heifers I've seen look useful as well.  I think it was Sullivans that had several Code Red sired heifers in their sale.

This is a Code Red heifer I just bought from Gana Nisley. She is a Sept. dtr out of the original Revival cow. Little trashy on the throat , but really is nice everywhere else.

Great sale.  I thought the 25 bull calf was as good or better than any I've seen there since Sonny.

Bill has tried several bulls of different breeding over the years with mixed success.  The Bloodstone/Sonny/Trump cattle continue to do the job for his market.  You can't argue with success.  There weren't a lot of Rewind cattle offered, but the ones I saw looked as good as any he's had from the "outcross" lines sampled.

He would be successful with any bloodlines he marketed. The image of success his place projects will sell even the sorriest of cattle for a premium.

I thought the solid red Waco bull calf he sold two years ago blew that lot 25 out of the water. But then again, I value masculinity in a herd sire prospect.

Nice-  I thought the Code Reds really stood out in that catalog.  Good pedigree on the bull too-

Was that the lot 16 bull calf? I really liked him a couple years ago. I didn't make it this year so I can't compare the two, but that was a solid bull prospect in my opinion. I wonder what he is doing now? Should have his first calf crop on the ground I believe. Who bought him?

That's exactly right, Heath.  I was swinging a hammer at that time and didn't have any money- I remember calling everybody and their brother trying to round up the money to buy him. I thought I did good rounding up 8 grand. He ended up bringing exactly twice that.  He sold to an outfit in Oklahoma Diamond M or Diamond something or M something  (lol)  I've looked in the past and didn't see exactly. The roan Waco bull calf that also sold in that sale (remember, they split him from a roan cow you were interested in) sired a lot that's consigned to the Texas State sale next weekend.

WHR Dimmitt- bought by Diamond C down in Tyler, Tx

That's Raymond Carnes. I've known him for a pretty good while. Good guy.

I had a feeling that's who that was. Didn't make the connection to diamond c though.  I talked to him on the phone before I bought Vanguard- he imported a Major Leroy son a few years prior.

You have a better memory than me! I had to look it up, are you talking about the WHR Waco Force bull out of the lot 57 cow? You're right, I did really like that cow, I think she went for around $5,500 which was a little too much for us.

We did buy the lot 65 cow, Dream Girl 7920 that was bred to Waco that year. We kept that calf a bull until he was a yearling, but never really came on like we were hoping. She had a Free Bird bull calf this past fall that is a pretty good calf and should sell as a steer in the next month or so. She had a bull calf on her side at the sale in 2012 by WHR Prestige, he went to Holcomb and is named WHR Prestigious, my brother went and looked at him last year, seemed to be a pretty solid bull but I haven't seen anything sired by him. I think we are going to try and buy some Prestige semen to AI her this fall. We bred her to our JPJ son this past fall.

On another note, on your Vanguard bull, I really like Major Leroy's dam, the Prairie Lane Sparkle cow, it seems like she has had a lot of good ones from the pictures I have seen on here and I really the picture of her. Also, I'm a big fan of the Diamond Captain Mark 27C bull that is on the bottom side of your bull. We bought 5 units of semen on Captain Mark a couple years ago, really looking forward to using it in the coming years.

yup that's the cow. Think her bull calf only brought like $2k in the sale.  I've heard mixed results using Waco but as far as the majority of the females I've seen, they've all been pretty nice with plenty of capacity. I would have liked to seen him bred to some of the 'commercially' oriented Shorthorns-  when I saw him in 2012 I thought he had much more intrinsic value than just siring show calves.  With his semen on the rise I doubt will ever know.  I do know where a very salty solid red horned Waco son is that's out of a Bakenhus cow-  he's breeding purebred angus cows here in Texas. An older man bought him as a weaned calf for mkt price- he has no idea what's in his pasture!
