Ia Guy, Why is it that nobody asked John what he thought about providing very high priced cattle to his nephews to compete with the same people that support his business?

Because it would be both rude & disrepectful to ask a question like this. Especially to someone that is volunteering his time and knowledge on an open forum board.
How would it be fair to John's newphews to not be able to show calves because he sells show supplies? The Sullivan family flat know how to work & get it done. Watch them and learn what it takes.

is the show ring really that important to selling cattle?    i personally don't care if people keep back their best one's for whatever reason.

James and Nick don't even show Shorthorns anymore. They show ShorthornPlus (John only sells a handful of those compared to how many PB's he sells), Maines, Commercials, and a few others.  Those boys also raise and sell some very good club calves of their own.

Brent, I think there is a simple answer to this question--lots of people like to b!tch behind someone's back, but few have the b@lls to say it to the person's face. Most of the "complainers" would be far better off spending their time selecting better cattle--and putting the necessary effort into feeding and fitting a winner--than complaining about those who do.

If anyone has ever visited his nephews farms then they would they have just as good cattle as John. We visited their farms and saw the cattle THEY produce. I would assume that the person asking the question does not know the families very well at all and are jealous or cant stand the heat.

I wanted to answer this so badly this morning and decided against it, but since you brought it up here goes...

No one asked the question because it is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS, if it was so important to you, why didn't you ask.
Each person has to make the decision whether to show the animals they raise and how that choice will impact their business, I would say in John's case it didn't hurt his business at all for his nephews to show really good heifers.  James and Nick are hard working and win (and lose) with a gracious spirit they are a great example for most of our children that are out there showing, I can't think of a reason John wouldn't let his nephews show for him!
