everyboby wants to sell, but very few put prices or location, I think these should be in the ad, with the state in the subject.

I agree.  Sure would save alot of hassle for all involved, not to mention countless emails, pms, etc.  I hate asking for prices anymore.  I remember not too long after I first joined Steer Planet, there was a comment made my someone on here about people always asking for prices just to be asking and not because they were interested.  Would just be so much easier if cost, location would be included in the post that way people don't have to feel bad when inquiring about prices, etc.  <beer>

I can kind of understand not putting the price up, but it kind of irritates me when everyone has to ask for the person's location and they pm the PPL while everyone is really wanting to know where the calf is located so they can figure out whether or not it is worth going any further into cking the calf out B/C of transportation costs. So if it's not to much to ask when someone asks for a location, please post your location up for all to see, or better yet just put your location up @ the same time that you post up the for sale item. Thanks

Price, location, description & either a PICTURE or a VIDEO are all very good things list when posting classifieds & possibly should all be required, IMHO.  For those "serious" calves, I'd think it would be better for all if they bought a banner Ad on the left.  After all, if they are that "serious", don't they deserve a "serious" level of advertising?  ;)  But, that is JMHO & it's not my site.

I am working on a fix, very close.  I am building a new post form for purely classifieds, having a problem with the attachments.  IN the short go, I added a message to the classified pages.

Whatever the policy is turns out to be is fine by me. I will quit posting anything at all if prices are required.

I agree, sometimes it is as much for the potential customer than the seller. I wasn't a huge fan of every Joe Blow knowing my business when it came to the cattle I showed. Some instances of course guaranteed exposure but that was MY decision. I think it will alienate a lot of people just to satisfy the curiosity of a few. If you are to scared to ask for a priced you probably weren't very serious in the first place. Everyone says it would be so much easier to just post a price, and it would save answering the same question 50 times but sellers still don't post a price, and I think it is for a reason.

I can see both sides of the coin as far as the cattle go. Frankly, it's the busines of the buyer and seller, and nobody else, unless one or the other decides to tell. There again, that's their decision. Now when you get to equipment, that seems absolutely ridiculous to not put a price. We all know what they're worth new, so in my opinion either put a price on it, or tell people to make offers!

If you have tried advertising on here you would know that 99.9% of the people wanting to know the prices have no intentions of buying anything but ask on 99.9% of the cattle advertised on here. If you are serious about a cow, bull, calf etc. pick up the phone and call us we would enjoy visiting with you. Other wise if somebody wants everybody to know their business they will tell everybody.

Jason has expressed his wishes.  It's his site.  These classifieds are 100% free.  I really do not see the problem, especially when he has paid advertising options on this same site where you can do things exactly the way you want... including advertising your cattle without mentioning a price (see all of the ad's on the left hand side of the site for more info).

Let's be realistic here. How open and exposed do you think SP is. If you sell a calf on here, what are the chances someone's going to recognize the user or the calf at a show? I've been here since the beginning, seen a million classifieds, and I can name maybe 15 people from here, and have met fewer in person. Who cares whao knows what you pay for a calf or how much money you're making. Get a grip or take your business elsewhere.

i say make it required to post location and price not an option,,, if they dont want to post location and price then find a different way to sell their cattle... I hate asking for the price and location, it would save a bunch of time it that information was posted in the ad. I would know right away if I was interested in the cattle for sale by the location and price. thats my opinion  <beer>

I appreciate Jason supplying this forum for people to advertise. But I have been selling cattle more than twice as long as you've been alive. It doesn't matter to my customers if you see a calf at  a show and recognize it. What matters to them is that their business is their business and it's not yours. If they want you to know what they paid for an animal they can put up a billboard if it suits them. Otherwise it's none of your business. Period. Doesn't matter to them if they ever meet you. Doesn't matter to them if you ever recognize their calf. It doesn't matter to them if you understand it. It doesn't matter to them if you think they "have a grip." It doesn't even  matter to me if it makes sense to me. What matters to me is what they want. It doesn't matter if they want them painted pink and green. If  I want to continue to sell to those people I will cater their wishes and not yours.

As far as it being a hassle to call, there has not been one occasion in which someone who was truly interested in actually writing a check for an animal that I advertised here wasn't also willing to punch ten numbers into a phone and have a conversation about the animal. If you think that's too much trouble, you're not interested, you're just curious.

The "new" system will solve most of these problems.  Location will be a requirement, it was also have additional fields to supply information such as:

price
phone number
best way to contact - phone, email, or pm
best time to contact

Because I am going to force location, I am also looking at away to display on the classifieds on a google map.  It would be real easy to scan all the classifieds and see what is in range for you.  The hiccup on this is finding a good, free, geocoder.  I have to convert zip codes into lat, long.  I will also display the location on the classified listing page, so you wont actually have to open a thread to see where it is located.

I don't have a solution to weed out tire kickers, nature of the beast.  But, I am willing to listen to any ideas.

I think a great way to weed out tire kickers is to have them pm here or call. Lol

As for location. I always try my best to provide one but what is the required field going to be? A city? An address? Not sure how comfortable l am post my actual address on an open forum.
