Ok so I have shown steers for quite a few years now, but my county is so small there are usually only 5 steers... Because of this we don't try very hard to do the wood shaving ramp at fair. This year I am showing at stock show and don't want to look like a complete idiot. Please tell me how to do the wood shaving ramp like they do at the big shows! Thank you!! 😅

I prefer a little courser shavings/mulch. Pile your shavings where the head of the calf will be. Keep the shavings about a foot deep there and taper them to about two inches deep where your stall space gets to the isle. Water the heck out of it as you do it. You don't want it to run down the isles but you do need to get it wet. How much will depend on how moist the stuff is when you start. Pack it down as you go. If you can get to a few shows on move in you can watch it happen. Good luck! If I have been doing this wrong myself someone tell me. I hate to give bad advice if there is a better way.
