WOODROW (abc bull)

Howdy!

    This guy is our new American cross sire "Woodrow", and we strongly feel that he has the intangibles to be the best in the business. From his pedigree, to his physical attributes, to his vast breeding capabilities WOODROW is the one we have been looking for! He is out of the great American cross herd sire from Lucherk Cattle, Hammer, and his Dam is an F1 Maine/Brahman Donor cow from the men who raised this beast at DMK Cattle. We feel he may be the only American club calf bred bull on the market this fall that you can not only use on Exotic cows to get ABC's with confidence but also on low percentage American cows, and if used on half blood Brahman cows we feel he will produce some real world class Brahmans!

    When it comes to American cross herd sires, three main concerns arise:
1) Attitude- Brahmans are known for having a bad attitude; but this guy will let you walk up to him in the middle of the pasture and scratch all over him.
2) Birth Weight- Brahman influenced bulls are known for having high birth weights; however Woodrow's sire has been used with confidence on heifers and Woodrow was only 65 lbs at birth
3) Frame Size- Brahman influenced cattle are also know for being large framed; however this guy is a perfect moderate frame size.

    I realize most of you on here are not familiar with analyzing Brahman cross cattle, but with this amount of muscle, look, and functionality I think that even most of yall will appreciate this flop ear!

I would agree with everything you say with the exception "that Brahman cattle are known for having a bad attitude."  Brahman cattle are some of the most gentle cattle in the world.  Just go to India if you don't believe me. The problem comes when you cross them with other breeds ie, hereford, angus, simmental, etc.  Katy bar the door because that is when you get the attitude.  I have always wondered why that was.  Anyone out there have any theories on that or maybe you disagree?

I didn't mean to derail your post.  I clicked on it because I am looking for an American sire to use on a hooDoo heifer.  Do you think he would work on first calf heifers?

With brahman cattle I really believe there are only two ends of the specteum, extremely gentle and extremely nuts! I own a brahman cow that knows her name and can be ridden like a horse, and I have never been to India but I have worked many of south Texas brahmans and been nearly derailed off my horse, seen good pens get demolished and grown men get severely injured.

On the other hand I can not say for certain that he would work on heifers because of the fact that he is a crossed and has no progeny on the ground yet; however I can say that  I am using him confidently on my heifers this fall. His sire has had many great champion style steers as well as consistently used on heifers. In addition, Woodrow came out small and is little headed and relatively  small in stature. Plus I think that mating with hoodoo could be dynamite!

Looks like a Braunvieh cross... very nice, have you been down the road at Vista or visiting Tim at the 2bar rockin k ?  I will agree with you on the attitude.  Anyone who says their gentle has never tried to work a commercial heard of Brahman cross cattle...But this isn't India either..

Yes he is colored like he is high braunvieh influence but he is only about an eighth

I really like that bull maybe a touch to much brahman for me (tryin to get brangus calfs) but I have bred some hammers and have a close friend who has sworn by that bull for the past 3 or 4 years now i believe? but the highest selling steer I have ever sold was a brangus prospect that was a Hammer X Meyer/american cow. I sure like the bull and wish the best luck for yall! To anyone wondering the bull this one is out of is low birthweight and wouldnt think this one would be much different. Every hammer calf we have had hits the ground around 55-65 pounds and winds up super super stout!

I was referring to purebred Brahman, not crossbred.  Of course, Brahman cross cattle tend to have some atttitude.

Glad you like him Kevin! I understand he is too much brahman for what yall are doing over there on your american cows, but I think he could be the ticket on some straight exotics...just something to think about.

i really like how this bull doesn't have much to hide he is very good quality and very muscular he is very flat on his top and i like the color pattern but im really trying hard to get past all the Brahman influence that gives him the leathery front and sheath that i dont care for but if i ever was looking for a bull like this i would use him because i like his design and eye appeal

Kevin I was thinking the exact same thing for this bull on the old meyer types or simmis to get some pretty stought simbrah classing calves...but I think he could work on a lot of different type of continentals to give you some high quality Simbrah or ABC calves...and Kevin I know I have asked you before but does anybody have pics of the Hammer bull...a lot of people use him and swear by him, but I have never seen a pic of him anywhere..just curious.

P.S. Kevin I am goin to clip that heifer this afternoon unless something changes...will shoot you some pics after i get her done.

Thanks wyatt, and topher u were the first to see him off the trailer so I guess its only right that u get first shot at some straws!
I have seen hammer in person and he is made a whole lot like Woodrow as far as muscle shape and overall design. Except he is solid black, shows less brahman character, a little shorter necked, and not quite as much belly. But he stamps his calves with a big square hip. But sorry no pic

  He looks good I have an american bull calf I kept this year as well mine is 1/2 braunvieh(sp) 3/8 maine 1/8 brahman colored very similiar with plenty of breed character. Kept him to use on brahman cross cows. Your bull looks like he will work good luck

if you use him on an average cow i wouldnt expect less than what he is right now so you should end up with some decent calves
