I know they're mostly used where there isn't much humidity, but I gotta think it would help some here in IL where it gets pretty humid.  The football teams have em on the sidelines and what not.  I don't think it could be any worse than misters.  Any ideas?

Justin--we invested in a Port-a-Cool last spring, with the same question--would it work in Iowa. Our conslusion: yes, to a certain extent. We did not buy the biggest one available, possibly a mistake. Plus, we had 6 heifers under fans--probably asking too much of a medium sized unit. Add the fact that we had more humidity last summer than I can remember and you have sort of an unfair test!  My conclusion: yes, they can help--the question remains, are they worth the cost for use in this part of the country... In all honesty, I think we had just as much luck growing hair with lots of fans and well regulated misters, but we are going to give the Port-a-Cool another try...  If you do buy one, buy a BIG one!

Porta cool is basically the same idea as the cool cells in a confinement hog building and they will drop the temp in our buildings 15 degrees +or - depending on outside temperature they should work might just check with some one like Qc supply about putting a cool cell in a wall might be as chea[ and work better
