Sorry guys i am not a fan at all.  The first one especially is very pop-shouldered and looks to be hard calving.  All three are droopy hipped and tight gutted and how can you judge soundness by a picture?  Soundness is judged on how an animal moves, structural correctness can be gauged by a picture but dare i say, the second bull is probably the best for me for structural correctness and the other 2 are far from perfect in any area.  JMO

just to be clear, i was kidding.  that first bull has the sorriest looking legs i think i've seen in quite a while.  the last bull is gross as well.  the french for some reason are not cutting these animals.  another couple of generations and they might need roller skates to get around.  a sad direction indeed.

theres a pic of an old bull from the 30's that ain't bad in that book i linked.

The bull pictured appears to be sounder than alot of the shorthorns and other breeds of that era. Its almost like the French used some kind of reverse selection process to ruin the Maines O0

Yep Knabe I can see why you like fullblood Maines. Most people buy a good one and breed better looks like you have gone the other way.
Secretly I know they are yours (lol)

The Old Bull, 1932, may have given Cunia a run for the money. Too bad there's no semen on him.

I think you can go from one extreme of the spectrum to the other when it comes to structural integrity. I'll have to agree, the straighter bull would be preferred over the sickle hocked bulls. Maine cattle were never selected for their superior mobility. Most French farmers only had a couple by the barn to supply them with a little milk and some veal forthe family.
