"Easy" (Coalpit Creek Leader 6th)
« on: August 15, 2012, 02:31:20 PM »
After running across Dans post about the new $ values that the Shorthorn Association is using, I thought I would post some pictures of one of our bulls mentioned. This is Coalpit Creek Leader 6th. We call him Easy due to his fleshing ability as well as calving ease. He also has a very gentle nature that he sure seems to pass along. We purchased this bull from Dennis Hoffrogge in MN as a yearling. I will post a few pictures of his offspring to date. All of his calves so far have been unassisted and most unobserved. These pictures show his progression into maturity.

As a long yearling
]

At 2-1/2 years

As he looks this summer as a coming 4 year old

YY Napiaki's Dream 214Z at about 1 day

Same calf and dam in early June

YY Melissa Dream 230Z and dam early August 2012

A very attentive 13 year old Diamond Baroness 21J and YY Dreamy Baroness 203Z. This dam is also the dam of our YY The Earl of Dover 118U bull.

What a magnificent bunch of cattle.  When were these calves born?  Feb, March?  They will surely have tremendous weaning weights!  Nice job (clapping)

Thanks Duncraggan. The 200Z bull calf was born 1/14/12 (82 lbs). 222Z was born 2/10 (85 lbs), Heifer 203Z 1/20/12 (80 lbs) and the 230Z heifer3/8/12 at 80 lbs.

BW's from our 1st calvers (2 yr. olds) have run in the 70's. We do have one larger framed cow from more "mainstream" genetics that has given us two 105 lb bull calves in a row. They are awfully good calves, but a harder sell at that weight.

I saw your " Easy" bull when he was at Genex Hawkeye West in Bilings early in 2011. I was impressed and thought he was a very useful bull. Tremendous thickness, and tremendous depth of body and his easy fleshing ability was very evident especially when you compared him to many other bulls of various breeds in the same stud.  He also has the masculinity I think we need to add to many of today's male animals. He is moderate framed and has a great quarter.   He looks impressive and his calves do as well. Do you have semen in Canada yet? I think he was being collected for export if I remember correctly.

Thanks Grant and knabe,
Grant, semen is available North of the 49th. We've been pleased with the sales. I've been wishing I'd have sent more the first time. It's starting to look like the demand for these low-input types rise with the price of corn!

When I look at the backgrounds of many of these pictures, I fully understand why the movie stars and many others from the rich and famous crowd are trrying to buy up land in that part of the world. I hope you aren't disappointed when you get to Heaven! It must be awefully hard to go out and look at good cows in such beautiful country!  I haven't been down through your country for a few years, but I have always thought of it as one of my favorite places I have seen.

What wonderful pics. The bull is amazing. Congrats.
I would like posts regarding old bulls genetics and offline facts of Shorthorn breed in US/Can/AUS.
Will try check the posts frequently.
An old post regarding Meriwong Smuggler/ Crestdale S.Flag was amazing. I own some semen from Smuggler, Lone Pine G. Society, Mandalong S.Flag and others old bulls.
Regards from southern Brazil. (clapping)

Looks like a bunch of great quality, easy keeping cattle.  They look like good examples of shorthorns that are able to reproduce every year and maintain condition without the help of a feed bucket.  Well done!

Great photos! Very nice bull. I saw two adds  in the latest shorthorn country about Dennis. Very small black and white deals. He may be on to something. I would use this bull in a second.
