I just wanted to let the sp gang know that most of the sales worth seeing (IMHO) will be on this site!  Enjoy!  Hope to see some of you all soon!

Are you talking about the Denver sales? The ones I've looked into require a subscription. What's interesting is that I've contact some of the sale managers and they either had no clue about the subscripion fee, except for one that said he heard it was going to be installed, but then Brad told him it was going to work and they were taking it down. They actually told me to wait because they were supposed to be getting rid of the subscription system, but I said no I've gotten emails that tell me all about it. So they were going to call Brad. haven't heard anything else.

I went to the site today as I'm possibly wanting to bid on a couple of lots in the Lowline Sale.  Everything regarding the fee is still up.  I 'had' to subscribe (succumbed to paying the 30day $20 fee) to get a number.  They sent a confirming email that said I'd get my number the night before the sale!  My confidence level for this site is very low.  Even just signing up, and on my cable (FAST) internet connection, the quality of the transmission was poor and 'jerky'.  I wonder if I'll even be able to submit a bid and have it transmit quickly and reliably.  Oh, well, someone else's loss if I can't bid effectively, except for my $20!

Sorry guys!  I hope you don't think I am advertising for Brad!  I got an email this morning highlighting all of the Denver Sales.  This email said something to the effect that buyers not previously registered may be subject to a subscription fee, now that I look it over a 2nd time.

Talk about double dipping!!!!  Sale management pays handsomely on the top side....evil to charge the viewers..geesh!

I will refund your subscription fee if you purchase something on-line.

(NOT ALL SALES REQUIRE A SUBSCRIPTION)

Just give me a call at 816.392.9241, if you have any questions.

The subscription is meant to help us do a better job validating bidders. (I could tell you some stories of what information people try to register with (i.e. Wrong Phone Numbers, Fake Information, False Banks)  I hope this doesn't happen on SteerPlanet!

  • We have 60,000 people logging into LiveAuctions.TV and it is hard to do a real good job without a credit card to validate their existence.
  • Plus, viewers costs about $1 per person / per hour. (If we have 500 people log on for 3 hours our bandwidth bill will be more than we charged to web-cast the sale.)

My goal is not to double-dip, my goal is to:
1)  make it affordable to web-cast a sale
2)  make it affordable to watch a sale

P.S.  I am open to any suggestions that will help us make a more secure, trustworthy and reasonably priced business

P.S.S. The competition can boast that they don't charge to view but the bandwidth will grow to a point that some sales can not afford internet bidding. It's mathematics of large crowds and bandwidth bills.  My goal is to make internet bidding available to all sales (even sales with 30 head - like the Denver Angus Bull Sale)

In my opinion that is a much better policy, and if that would have been stated from the start I believe alot of the rumor/trouble could have been avoided.

Thanks for listening and explaining the whys and all that in more detail.

The refund policy makes good business sense.

I applaud you for coming on SP and clarifying the situation.
We all want you to succeed (or I do for sure).
LiveAuctionsTV from my perspective works and I have never had an issue with the site from either connectivity, sound or bidding.

My only complaint was that at one sale the auctioneer was verbally advising everyone, on line and others in the stands, who was biddding on line during the selling of a lot before the lot closed.
That takes away from the anonymity of biddding on line.
That is easy to fix.

All the best. .................Bob

True livestock professionals should have better sense... internet sales broadcasts are a form of advertising through which it is possible to stimulate interest, and therefore, sales. Your job is to promote business, not deflate it by charging viewers who may login to watch out of curiosity but return to buy at a later date. Who knows how many buyers will be lost because they were refused permission to view a sale without paying your exhorbitant fee for ONE SALE ??!!! Especially in this economy, sales promoters should be bending over backwards to encourage as many attendees and viewers as possible to all events and venues. Congratulations for shooting yourself in the foot... along with all of us who depend on the Denver show and sale to establish guidelines for the year.

That's at least a step in the right direction... I'll give you that.  But, I must ask, why not refund the fee if a bid is placed & if everything checks out to be legit?  Or better yet, why not refund everyone's fee after the sale animals in that particular sale have been paid for?  At that point there would be nothing left for anyone to prove.

Any expenses should be considered a sale cost, not a tax on the buyer/bidder/viewer, IMHO.

Trust me, you are not the only one disgusted.  I talked to several recently who feel the same way... Australia, Washington state... it's not just people back here in the eastern US.  And it should be obvious that I am not watching it & the sale is going on right now, I suppose.  I was even considering bidding on a few lots... I didn't read that if you buy one you get the fee refunded.  But, I still think it's a bad deal to charge viewers/bidders, so I will not be participating... oh well... it saved me $$.

I remember someone telling me that a large QH place in Nebraska now charges a fee to get into their annual auction.

Now, if I am going to go fuel up the truck, rent a hotel room and then you charge me to come to your auction, I will take my business else where.  Supply and demand , cost of doing business, it all adjusts in the end.

Update:  I just got an email with all of the recent sale results offered by liveauctions.tv.  Fun to look at if you can afford the $50 subscription.  I think I will read about it in the funny papers.

Since I did pay to bid for 30 days for the Lowline Sale, I took a look at the results.  Wonder why the Lowline results aren't there?  Does the sale management have to give permission for the results to be made public, I wonder?  I know some horse sales operate that way.

When I was at Nelson's sale, I was there to bid because at Iowa beef expo sale last year, the bull I wanted to bid on was never seen.  The whole screen froze up and we missed the bull.  So my husband sent me to Nelsons and he would stay home do chores and coach me from the cell phone while he watched.  Needless to say, he wouldn't pay the fee (we were offered the refund if we bought on line, but that defeated the purpose of sending me and we missed the bull we were hoping to bid on at the expo).  Sadly, Juli and Brad missed out on my money.  I got cold feet and backed off on cows and went home with nothing.  First thing my husband told me is that I should have bid more :-\ :'(.  I know you all probably think he should have went, but with chores to do, we barely ever leave the ranch for any length of time together.

Another reason I like the internet...my father-in-law is in Ohio, 85 years old, and he would love to watch the show and sale at the Expo.  He was going to go up to the public library and watch, but I hate to ask him to pay that fee.  I know those are the type of people they don't want on there bandwidth, but it sure would have been nice for him to watch it.  At his age he just cann't stand the cold like he use too.

OK off my soap box.  I personally would consider the fee, but with the poor picture and undependablity I just cann't bring myself to do it.

so we don't get their on-line ads if not registered? I was wondering why I wasn't getting anymore.
