I agree-and I dont think people are trying to propogate trainwrecks-Ive been seeing more and more massive cool clean animals coming from THC and PHA carriers-And to a non-salebarn non colorblind person like me-I like them fine for show-and even to upgrade (or change)some commercial cattle for club calves. Why throw away a good animal when you can breed it clean and maybe get a really good one thats 50% on the good side(clean) and will produce clean ? In my statement......I said that "I'll bet" that 9 out of ten kids......etc.. I did not present that as fact. In my opinion show cattle of today have no enviromental pressure put on them. It is et after et after et......special diets and breeding schedules. This is not conducive to raising cattle that excell in a range condition. That is my opinion. It is my goal to be defect free. I figured I spent between 9 and 10 grand on testing since it has become available. Alot of people don't like to hear the truth. If you don't want my opinion on here you need to start impeachment procedings I guess.

Feel free to post your opinions, post them all.  But also be expected to be called out when your opinion is utter dreck.

If you want cattle that are beyond peer in the ranging and hardiness categories, there are lots of Longhorn and Bos Indicus cattle that could probably suit you better.  Feed them sage and salt water and watch the money roll in.

On the ASA animal search bulls are listed as follows:

Deerpark Improver        DS-C

Deerpark Improver 2nd  DS-F
Deerpark Improver 57  DS-F

If you see others, please post.  Are there any that are DS-H on there?

We just sent in several to the lab, and the turn around is maybe less than 2 weeks.  Is DS test cost $20 now?
Here is some from a list I have been keeping, if I did any wrong please let me know as I tried to double check them.

Thanks for posting "some" of our DS results- but the "turnaround time" was not two weeks for us..... more like 8 months. The actual DS marker was Identified the end of May 2013- I sent samples early June of 2013 with results end of Dec and late Jan of 2014.

Interesting cattle appearing on the DSC (and DSH) list.  You could sure make some assumptions based on the pair shown as DSH.  Odd defect in that cattle can be DSH and not physically show the deformity.

It seems one could make some pretty accurate assumption if I understand this. DSH stands for homozygous carrier right? So unlike TH or PHA or other lethal recessives when you get the defect from both parents the animal is DSH and can live plus then passes on the defective gene 100% of the time? If that is right then both parents of DSH animals have to be either DSC or DSH, can DL or someone confirm this?  :-\

I'm anxious to find out what % of dsh cattle have express a debilitating defect?  My hunch is that it is going to be very, very low.

Is there liability (to the individual breeder or ASA) for selling carriers or potential carriers to people who do not realize that there are defects?  Some leading breeders have tested a lot of cattle--we to purchase from them and support their sales, because we don't have to guess about potential problems.  We test bulls for TH and DS even if they are pedigree free.

Carrier genes are like noxious weeds--none is plenty.

DSH females are surely out there.  Have you found any of them in your searching?

I just talked to another breeder and thanked him for testing his herd bulls (past and present) for DS.  Leadership is appreciated.

It looks like some breeders are leaders in testing everything that needs tested.  Doc, Sullivan's herd bulls that I've looked up have been tested, or they have DSF cattle between them and any possible carrier.  Waukaru (Jordan Family) and Tom Turner have also tested and posted.  These leading breeders are saving their customers a lot of money in the long run.  Sue (Lakeside) has helped by informing us about which of her sires are clean (I don't need to test my Captain daughters!).  Oakview, Okotoks & Coyote, you obviously want to keep your customers informed.  A.J., thanks for investing time and money into this.

CF Twilight *4158630 DS-F is a JPJ son. His dam and sire are both THF and PHAF and Twilight sure is a good looking bull.
