Proud dad (pictures) One year later

Today my 9 year old daughter showed in her first show and did a great job.  I am very proud of her and her heifer that we raised.  I have to admit that I was worried how the would do on their first outing, but everything went great and the heifer acted so good that little brother even got to show her in pee wee showmanship.  He was really excited to get to show and his smile was so infectous that everone in the arena was smiling too.  It was a great day! <beer>

It is so great to have such a good heifer for the kids to get their early experiences in showing with.  Great job with your kids, and your heifer.  Good looking heifer on top of it.

Thanks for all the compliments.  This heifer is the perfect calf for first time showers.  I tried selling her last fall and then decided that we had to keep her and show her because of her great attitude.  She makes it easy for the kids and really boost thier confidence.  Today was probably the best time I've ever had at a show!

We found its always nice when they can have a pretty good heifer, with the right attitude, that first time.  A little success goes a long way to light the fire.

the pics make me smile and I can just imagine what it must to have been like at ringside. Congrats to yoru daughter and to you as well. I agree that the heifer is really cool. I think most any kid would be pretty proud to have a heifer like this for her first show!

Way to go pard -- this is what we hope for when our kids are or were young -- what a great day.    (clapping)

I still remember our son Nate when he was just about a week past 8 years old, he had his first steer that year and we called him Dufus -- due to his extreme gentleness (Plus he was absolutely STUPID -- hehehehe!) Nate weighed about 60 pounds soaking wet, and the steer was 1310 on show day. He couldn't even hold his head up past level that's how small he was. He got it done though, and I will never forget the crowd clapping like mad when he was in a toss up for first in class of the 14 there.

Later -- back in the barn after all the work was done, I found him sleeping on the floor next to that steer --- his head was up against the steers shoulder and he just laid there like he was his own calf! Never forget it!

This old world just keeps getting smaller.  I saw a picture of that heifer on Tyler's facebook page and asked him about her.  I didn't realize yall were related.  Nuts!!!  Congratulations on your kiddos doing well Wade.  Good luck with them in the future.  It looks like that's a fantastic first calf for those 2. 

One word of advice - keep showing one that gentle till she's just flat out too old.  One that behaves that well with little kids on the halter isn't that common.  A calf a little kid trusts will teach them so much about showing that will help them with every other animal they drag.

Congrats dad. Very nice looking young female. The heifer ain't bad either. The fun has just begun enjoy it while it lasts. Our first show story is similar to Cowboy's. My oldest son was about 50 lbs. He got lucky and when the judge slapped his steer he didn't have a clue what it meant and just stood there till the ring steward told him to move his steer over there. My wife was videoing the show and caught my other boy about 2 years younger standing on a fence. When everyone started clapping he turned loose of the fence to clap and fell off the fence. But he was still clapping when he hit the ground.
