Sunseeker x Shorthorn/maine - Easily the best newborn heifer I have ever had. She looks flat out awesome at 3 days old.

Shiver x Maine - Pictured an earlier thread. out of a first calf heifer, unassisted, jumped up and was chasing the other cows around at 5 hours old.

Looks like you guys are off to a good start.
How much snow did you guys get over the last couple of storms?

Yeah!!!  My favorite thread!!  We were very disappointed with the start of our calving season, our best cow who was bred to Black Joker had a breech heifer, born dead of course.  Then a couple of days later our 3 year old angus had a beautiful Carneyman heifer, the best newborn heifer we had ever had, until today.  Caitlins first show heifer, who is now a 4 year old and is a Meyer granddaughter had a heifer this morning out of Black Joker, she is gorgeous!!  In between the two we had a Macho bull calf that is nice but I'm all for the heifers, Caitlin won't show steers!  Ill get pics today.

our first calf was born dead on Jan 9 so it wasn't that good of a start :-\ but its better. We probably got 6 inches from the past two storms. I'm glad we didn't get hammered

Nice looking calf out of heat wave.  Looks pretty stout for 85 lbs.
Did you weigh him or use a tap?

Thanks for the compliment.  Yes he does look awful stout for 85lbs.  We weighed him but he seems to have really filled out since birth.  He is the first Heatwave calf we have ever had and I was concerned about bw, his mother is a big 9 year old cow that I thought should work well with HW, so far I'm happy.

We calve most all of ours in the fall but this one is my last calf of the season or first of 2010 - whichever way you want to look at it. She was born yesterday and is sired by Blanco (my JPJ son) out of a 100 Solutions heifer out of a Heatseeker/Power Plant cow.

Man it looks like it is going to be a heifer year :( that's not good for me I need bulls. Most of the calves on here so far are heifers hopefully we see some bulls coming soon! I had my first caf 12/23/09 and of course it was a heifer. But I guess if there alive ill take them the way they come :)

Here are a few of our 2010 calves napping in the Texas sun which has been a rare commodity this winter.  We have had 13 so far with only one easy pull on a first calf heifer.

No prob the cow is a 10 year old angus that is very gentle ( old show cow ) and we mess with our calves from the minute they are born. But thanks for the warning.

One of the neighbors had one heck of a Tiger Woods x Heat Wave bull calf born yesterday, and all I can say is that my carrier females will be getting bred to him this round. Calf is hairy, big boned, good on structure. Real good calf.
