Cidr's do you use yours more than once?

Nope.  I figure if I am going to invest my time into sync'ing cows, I am not going to skimp on re-using cidrs.  Plus, hate to risk disease.  Just my opinion and what works for me.

    Merial "Long Range" wormer

If it is used on growing cattle (yearling heifers, yearling bulls, calves) how is the dosage correct from when you administer versus 45 days later when the animal has grown 100 pounds or more?  That was one thing mentioned in a meeting I went to.  Works great on mature fully grown cattle. Not...

Problems Going to Bull Stud Places

Sounds like the bio-security on international semen bulls.  They are MUCH stricter on visits and bio-security protocols than on domestic bulls.  I know both Hawkeye and Nichols you can walk thru the barns on the domestic bulls, but the international bulls are in restricted areas.

    washing steers

Lots of baby oil.  Let it soak in, apply more. Let it soak in, apply more.  Repeat until the balls literally fall off, leaving all hair in place and super soft!!!!

    Nose rings

Might step on a few toes here (but hey, that is a talent of mine!) 1. People are taking the "easy way" of training show cattle.  It takes a lot of time and dedication to make a animal super gentle.  Sometimes when pushed, abused and "man handled" the animals learn to push back.  2. Certain...

    Calving Question

Hopefully you have went to a vet to get the dex and banamine, as both have side effects if given too much especially in very young animals. Certain bloodlines are known for "dumb calves", so that might be a consideration to look into or avoid in the future.  As for your situation now.... I am...

    Does anybody guarantee heifers ??

I agree Frostback, but at the same time, if you do not know enough to ask, why would you?  I can remember back in the "genetic defect OMG" days, that everyone was telling newbies that if they weren't smart enough to ask about defect status it was their own fault, when in reality, I felt it was...

    HELP!?

Round hole, square peg theory..... 90 pound snake will come out much easier than a 80 pound square brick.  I expect my heifers to have a 90 pound calf.  I hope they don't, but expect that if they had to, they could.  I also do not like to keep small birth weight heifers due to the fact that a...

    Calves got Switched Problem

Glad it worked out, but I would have left well enough alone!

    really??? c'mon!!!

No different from many purebred sales..... if ya ever have time, type in some registration numbers of "high selling" animals.... pick the breed, pick the sale....many will NEVER be transferred.....  I keep sale catalogs to keep track of a few critters and it is amazing to see how many of these...

    Bull purchasing "Non-negotiables"

Had a very good discussion yesterday with a group of cattleman about purchasing bulls.  Opinions varied on what was "not up for discussion" or was considered "non-negotiable".  Since the bull purchasing season is in full swing, or soon will be, I decided to inquire what everyone considers their...

    Heifer won't accept calf

If the calf has nursed 2 weeks and the heifer is showing no signs of claiming, you are fighting a closing battle. The feed/molasses works great if it is borderline. "Calf Claim" or "Orphan no more"  is basically molasses. Before BSE, Calf Claim contained bloodmeal which worked wonders, but since...

    2015 Missouri State Fair

While I applaud their intentions, those that are going to cheat will have no problems in signing a sheet of paper, and wearing a wristband.  No needles allowed.  What about syringes?  Able to search exhibitors. What about showboxes and pickups on the grounds? All the rules in the world are...

    Red Angus bull calf

I like him.  His EPD's are balanced.  His %'s are respectable.  His BW is a bit high at 98 pounds. But love his dam MPPA at 102.9.  The "new epd's" still have to prove themselves to me (I do not like them) so I put little merit in them at this time.  I am glad to see his dam is a 2008 and has 5...
