    What is your Dream Blower?

I am going to expand on the last entry.  A double blower system that doesn't pull 19 amps each so breakers don't blow.  What a pain at a show when you are constantly resetting breakers!  A hose management system of some sort.  The hoses are long and tend to get wound around crap and knock stuff...

    Junior Nationals

Thank you for the encouragement!  We are really looking forward to it!  It will be the closest thing to a vacation as we have had in a while.  Those darn farmers are just busy all the time!

    Junior Nationals

We are showing Maine in Louisville and there are tons of contests the kids can participate in...it sounds like a blast!  I just don't know how to prepare!  My son wants to do showmanship, Sales contest, cooking, judging, poster and he hasn't decided on the others!  So along with clothes for the...

    Junior Nationals

We will attend our first Jr Nationals in June and was hoping for some tips.  It appears that there are lots of contests and competitions - as a mom I have to pack all the 'stuff' for these.  Do you pack everything but the kitchen sink?  The calves I don't have a problem with...it's all the other...

    Livestock Kids

Another 'Barn Mom' and I were talking the other day that we need to do something to help our 4-H livestock kids get to know each other better.  We have a pretty small fair, but we have some new folks to the barn and we would like to help the kids get to know each other and have some fun. ...

You might be a beef producer if...

So I was just talking with my sitter and my 6 yr old little girl was explaining her heifer's heat cycle and why she has a CIDR in her.....so... you might be a beef producer if...your child knows more about reproductive cycles than most adults!

    Help with my steer

I had a very similar issue with my son's steer.  He was eating just not finishing his feed so I would not increase it until he did.  Changed the ration and added VitaFerm, still he just didn't go after it like he should.  I was getting worried that he was not ever going to get to finished...

    New at showing....

Here are my two cents...my son has only been showing a couple of years and we learn something new at each show we attend.  So that would be my advice.  Go to the shows around you, even if you don't take an animal. Just go and talk to people, walk around...you will see and hear the...

    We changed trains

Welcome aboard!  We tried 'easing' into showing cattle, just to make sure the boy liked it.  Once we found out he loved it...it's like my money grew wings! BUT, when you kid looks at you and says 'Mom, I love spending time at shows with you'...It makes it all worthwhile.

    Glide or Natural Stride?

Major differences in ingredients...what are the differences in performance?

Add On Wheels for Grooming Chute

As a mom who takes her 11 yr old son showing by herself...getting the chute anywhere is a challenge.  The garden wagons are a great idea but it's still tough to get it onto the wagon without scratching the heck out of everything.  Thanks for posting this Cyfarmer!  I do like the idea of using a...

    Our First State Fair

I grew up showing pigs at our county fair, but never had the opportunity to show at our Indiana State Fair.  This year, I am taking my son to show his heifer at the State Fair, and I am a nervous wreck.  My husband will be at home on the farm, so it's just me and my 11 year old.  Any suggestions...

    Dying hair

First, is it ok (is there a rule against it?) to dye a cow's hair for a show and second, does anyone do this?  Is it a regular part of your show prep?  Just wondering.  Thanks!
