Had the exact same thing. Our vet actually have the PVC braces on hand. I wrapped the legs first then duct taped the braces on the back side of legs. I kept them on for 6 days then took off to check them and would say he's 90% better to the point I'm not putting back on.

Try topdressing with Power Fuel and only feed at night. We started this when it got hot earlier this summer and he's actually gaining more during the hot months. I'm a big believer in the Power fuel.
