I really like the amount and shape of muscle he has. Plus he's got a great front end on him. The only thing I question on him is his structure. From the picture it looks like he's twisted in those front legs and his back legs are straighter than we'd like them to be. But overall he looks good.
We currently have a steer that weighs around 800 lbs and we are in quite a situation. Our county weigh-in is the second weekend in February and he has to be under 950 lbs. so we are trying to find some information on a holding ration or what to do. We do have a couple shows in between and still...
We recently just bought a show steer. He is out of Polygraph and an angus cow. My guess on current weight is about 700 lbs. What I am wanting to know is what all do you all feed that will still keep hair, but get 'em fat enough to do well? We tried Moorman's last year. It did keep the hair but...
We had a 92 lb. bull calf out of a purebred shorthorn heifer and had to pull it. I'd use a little cation using him on a heifer. He sure does make them pretty though.
We had awesome luck with a shot of lutalyse, ten days later another shot of lutalyse then 3 days after that last shot you breed every one but not all the cows will be showing signs of heat at that time. We used it and had 10 cows out of 14 stick and a friend had around an 80% conception rate...
I too have seen the calves. Really solid and his best set by far. If you guys have any questions about the calves your best bet is to call jamie at 636-262-4505. He is a really nice guy and would by more than willing to answer any questions.
Our fair is the second week in July and the breed really doesn't matter. We would prefer black or black and white. It always seems like the powerhouses are the ones that win.
I'm looking for a show steer that will compete at our county show and at some higher level shows. We'd like to stay as cheap and as close to home as we can. We are locate about 60 miles north of St. Louis, MO. Thank you!
