    Star Power gestation length

I bred a few of my angus cows to a simmental bull, Star Power, for the first time.  I have 4 cows due in the next 10 days, just wondering if his calves come early or late?  I also bred a few to WMW, Swoosh, and Whose Your Daddy,  Any input on those would be welcomed.  Thanks

    Black and White Sunseeker hiefer

Hey Perham!  We have basically shown Angus: steers, heifer, cow/calf, feeders. My cowherd is basically purebred black angus.  This year we AI'd a few cows to Who Made Who, Swoosh, Whose your daddy. Javelin, and Star Power.  My son's show heifer(reg angus) we bred to SAF Focus of Er.  I very...

    Black and White Sunseeker hiefer

Hey Babytex, this is the Becker County mom, Louise Jacobson.  No I am not one of Rhondi's daughters but my our family is in the same 4-H club as the Ulmers and exhibit with them @ the Becker Co.fair.  My oldest son isn't old enough to go to State yet, two more years.  We look forward to maybe...

    Black and White Sunseeker hiefer

Hey your just down the road from me, I am in Audubon, MN.  Did you purchase your heifer for a 4-H project?  If you did and are in EOT 4-H, our county Becker, will potentially be co-hosting a fitting clinic next summer, details are in the process.  We just had a 1st livestock comm meeting last...

    Steer Prospect Opinions

What kind of temperment do they have, unless there is a huge temperment issue, I'd go with the red angus.

How much is Who made Who semen going for?

I purchased a hand full of straws this spring through Genex at $25/straw.  I should of been reselling them for $75 like l've seen listed.

    Help with Heifer

Have you dewormed her?  If not,I would bring a fecal sample to your local vet.  They would check to see if she was any worms, cocci, or any type of internal parasite.  Even if you've dewormed her, I still would bring a fecal in.  Providing you have a close vet in your area.

    Slick shows??

Dumb question but what exactly is a slick show, I'm not familiar with that terminology.

    4-H Prizes won

I was just wondering if I could get some feedback and ideas on what 4-hers/FFA-ers have won out across the land at county fair level.  We have a pretty small county Beef show and the same families end up winning and have a closet full of trophies.  So we are looking for ideas of other things to...

    I Love the County Fair

I agree 100% about county fairs.  Our county fair is this next week.  My son is showing a steer and heifer.  It's the same place I and my hubby showed as kids.  Our numbers are massively down compared to then, but are slowly increasing.  I still get that excited, nervous queasy feeling about...

    Banding

We use the Calicrate bander on our spring calves in the fall.  We give them a tetanus vaccination along with a 7 way and a 5 way and then two - four weeks later we booster all, tetanus included and band at that time that's recommended protocol at the vet clinic I work at.

Advice -to clip or not to clip

Would I use a cattle product or human product?  I suppose I could look in the sullivan's catalog.  I am way up north, in Minnesota, our cattle shows are few and far between up here and our ag stores do not have show products on the shelves.

Advice -to clip or not to clip

And how easy is this?  I haven't even dyed  my own hair, let alone my critters.

Advice -to clip or not to clip

I would like some advice on my son's show steer. It's two weeks from the county fair and I am trying to decide if I should clip his longer brownish/red tinted sun bleached  hair on his midsection, his hindquarter and shoulder are shed out to black.  Does anybody have any advice on that topic. ...
