    How to feed heifer best?

I have a May '15 heifer that at the moment weighs approx. 650#. She just gets hay at the moment, nothing special, but I would like to start putting some feed to her soon to feed her up for my August-November Shows this year. I have heard 1-3% of their body weight is what you should feed? Of...

    Certain Breeds for Showing?

I've been noticing in most shows that I've been to, the vast majority of the cattle are Charlais or Angus' and shorthorns are becoming more popular while you don't see very many Herfords or Limousins unless it's a breed show. Is it just my area or is this a general trend everywhere?

    Training Hair in the Winter

Should I bother? My calf's hair is currently trained but her winter coat is starting to come in. Should I still be brushing and training the hair (too cold to wash and don't have a blower) since it's all going to fall out in the spring? Thanks a lot!

    Opinion on Heifer?

Hey guys! I figured I should make a new topic for my personal heifer for next year. Once again, Purebred Limo. She's a May/15 and was shown by my younger sister this year and showed out well. Id just like to get everyone's opinion on her and maybe a suggested feeding schedule? I don't want to...

    Is Steer Worth Showing?

Thank you everyone for your advice and opinions! I'm actually from Ontario (Canada) and within our club the vast majority are limousin as well (it's a casual club as 90% of our members are under 10 haha) , but at Open shows its mainly (huge) charlais and angus cows. Yes this is just a calf for...

    Is Steer Worth Showing?

He is an early June steer, purebred limo, mother is very tall and father is shorter but heavily muscled. He's a secondary calf as I have a very promising may heifer, but he has the sweetest personality that makes him a breeze to train. He's about 4mnths and 380lbs. He would be a 4-H steer to...

Feeding a heifer Purina Evolution Juvenile Horse Ration?

We have a couple left over bags from our horses that we got rid of and the calves go crazy for it when we feed them small amounts as a treat. There are no warnings about not feeding it to cattle. It has Min 15% protein, min 7% fat min 15% fiber and selenium @ 0.45mg/kg. I hate to waste the...
