    incorporation of % wygu cattle.

An Australian breeder is using red wagyu genetics from Heart Brand Cattle to primarily infuse into their santa shorthorn composites to improve their carcass grading. Wouldn't be surprised if they trial some in their shorthorns either. The heart brand cattle look like nice cattle and their colour...

    University of Illinois Sire Test

I have seen this and the reverse a number of times. I dont think they have the focus on bwt that North America do so it wouldn't surprise me if their average birthweight was higher.

    University of Illinois Sire Test

I'm not sure. I know that they did a mock run and there was some movement in the ranking of bulls. The breeder i talked to felt bulls with more American influence were benefited more but they must have been happy enough to decide to go that way. I think the ability to utilise DNA was the main...

    University of Illinois Sire Test

Will be interesting how the epd's adjust when all the Australian data is added to the system. The are alot of well recorded large herds that have been carcass scanning a high percent of heifers and bulls for a long time and i believe would intend to do alot of DNA testing. Not sure if the durham...

Top 5 thickest shorthorn bulls available.

The bull I have used for a number of years to attempt to add thickness is The Grove Kookaburra and he looks to be doing a good job for some in Canada. Haven't seen the Muridale bulls in another post from behind but they sure look good from a profile photo.

Thanks for commenting. Hadn't heard of the jdmc prefix before but managed to find their website. They have some interesting cattle, depth muscle shape and appear to have good fat cover. The Remedy bull looks interesting. Have always liked the look of the Masterplan cattle. How reliable of are...

    Loving Shorthorns have catalog

I saw on a facebook post a supplement sheet with heifer pelvic measurements. How are these measured? With a range of 170 to 220cm3  and a weight range of 590 to 850 how is this used. Do you ratio weight to area or is there a standardised minimum. what would be acceptable. If you single trait...

    Loving Shorthorns have catalog

I always thought they did their percentage rankings the other way, leaner higher ranked top 5% more fat lower ranked 95%. I'm not sure there is enough scanning done to put much weighting on carcass epd's

    Shorthorn in hot weather....

Where i am in New Zealand from Dec through to Feb we can get to 30-33C with humidity in the mid 80's. Single digits is normal for our winter. Summer further north it late 20's to 30 with higher humidity. The nature of New Zealand being an Island with a central deviding range means there is quite...

    Narralda Lacquer

The type of bull id like to buy, but he sells next week in Western Australia. Agree with your ebv comments in an ideal world but he's not far away. Breed average isn't a bad place to be. At 3.9 I wouldn't be too worried at his birthweight over cows, I would think I would get low 40's which i am...

    Possible donor cow

I like the bull and he looks an easy doing type to me. I see alot of the dam side in him with Kookaburra and Engineer both being moderate thick bulls. Although not having seen Nasa I would have thought he was a much bigger bull. Okotoks what is the other bull you are getting semen in?

A good read on birth weights

I also believe this is why BW EPD is still a valuable tool as it presents some context, when analyzing CE EPD, as to the type (size) of heifers the bull in question has been bred to. It gives context as to the size of heifers the CE EPD was generated around.  Just because a +2 BW bull has the...
