    Feeding plan for light steer

If he's been sick and is on the mend, you'll likely see compensatory gain for the next 2-3 weeks. I'd get him up to 13 lbs of grain/day and a flake of good quality grass hay as quick as you can without scouring him, and you'll see him gain 4, 5, 6 pounds per day for those 2-3 weeks. Weigh him...

What would you say is the most important key to raising a good project.

I would have to say it is most important to me that the kids learn something, enjoy themselves and build relationships.

    Watery Eyes?

Vetericyn is a 1% bleach + 99% water solution with a little bit of salt. They put the same solution in bottles with different labels.

I clipped him, what do you think of my steer?

Weight yesterday was 1170, clipped on him some today. I need to blend his face better, take more off the front side of his neck and his rump, but will do that tomorrow.

    Fitting front legs

My county steer is a hairy blue roan with hereford-esque marking (white belly, legs, tail switch and face, blue roan body). He already is carrying more weight on his front half, and I'm afraid pulling his legs up will add to the problem. I've seen kids in my county pull all the hair up and...

    Re-use Ez-all 32oz applicator?

Just ran out of Ez-all in the 32oz "trial" size. I'd hate to throw away such a cool bottle. Does anyone know how to get the top off to refill it?

    Will I get warts?

My steer is developing warts. He has 4 or 5 pea-sized warts on his face and a couple on his neck. They are too small for me to take off with pliers, so I read on here to put iodine on them and they will dry up and go away. Anyway, will I get warts from working with him? (I should have known...

Bluing shampoo stained my calf purple today!

I left Sullvan's stain buster on him for too long today and his knees, flank, belly and sheath are a pretty color of purple. This has never happened before! Will it eventually go away?

I clipped him, what do you think of my steer?

Nobody has anything to say? Really its ok to be honest. I won't be offended.

I clipped him, what do you think of my steer?

He is an April 2011 calf sired by Sin City on an angus/hereford cow. Weighs 1110 today, target weight 1200-1250. I weigh him weekly, and his ADG is right around 3 pounds per day, county show is in 30 days. He hasn't been clipped since November, so please forgive the weird tailhead hair.  :) Oh...

What does a fat steer's cod look like?

In livestock judging, they tell us to use the cod (if present) as an indicator of finish on a steer. I've never seen an appropriately finished steer's cod, only ever in calves at sales sometimes.

How long to put on finish?

It is in 45 days. Should I start increasing feed?

How long to put on finish?

When you weigh on a scale, do you weigh in the morning before you feed when they are empty or a few hours after their first meal? What time of day gives the best representation of how much they actually weigh?

How long to put on finish?

I forgot to mention he's getting 2 flakes of hay per day also.
