    Lone Ranger Calf Reports

We purchased a Lone Ranger steer from Scott Campbell's sale in the fall.  We think this steer is pretty good.  https://www.youtube.com/embed/VPUT4V1GIKY

Black steer end of tail white crusty

Update: I've been treating the steer's tail with Shapely's MTG.  Hair begins to regrow, but you can pull it right out.  Doesn't seem to be attached.  Very, very strange. Any idea on something else to try?  I will try and post a pic tomorrow.  Thanks!

    Who's Your Daddy?

"Who's your daddy?" is the question I've asked a couple of our newborn calves. Running two purebred shorthorn bulls in the same pasture.  What is the process for paternity testing calves?  Thanks!

I'll show you mine, if you show me yours....

First calf of 2015.  Purebred SH bull calf (Muridale Bonanza 103U X Hot Commodity Son) out of a first calf heifer.  Born when the windchill was -24.  Worked like the dickens for 4 days to keep his ears intact.  Not sure if he'll stay a bull or steer him.  Time will tell.

Black steer end of tail white crusty

We have a black steer that I noticed when combing his tail I was getting clumps of hair with bright white rings around the hair follicles.  Upon further looking I discovered about a 4 inch patch from the end of tail up of thick bright white crust.  I'm pretty experienced with ringworm and this...

    Andis Ultra Edge Clippers Troubleshoot

I have a fairly new pair of Andis Ultra Edge clippers (blue special edition) that worked great on Saturday, but plugged them in yesterday and went to turn on and they acted like they blew a fuse.  I thought maybe I blew a fuse in the breaker box, but not the case.  Clippers won't do anything...

We use a curry comb to scrape them off and then feed them to the steer/heifer.  Seems to heal pretty quickly.

Huge Heifers at SH Jr. Nationals

We've just returned from our second trip to Shorthorn Jr. Nationals.  We go for the experience and to meet great people.  We are in our 3rd year of showing cattle, so still novices, but love learning from the pros. My daughter has a September 2012 heifer that she showed last year as a senior...

Chi, Maine and Shorthorn Junior Nationals

Just heard today that the 2016 Shorthorn Jr. Nationals is heading to Oklahoma City.  Not sure if it will be a stand alone show or combined with other breeds.

Gooseneck Trailer: Hauling Cattle and Show Equipment

Could be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway.  When hauling cattle and show equipment (chute, blowers, show box, stall sides, etc...) to shows do you prefer to put the cattle up front and equipment on the back over the axels or vice versa?  We have a (new to us) Eby 24" trailer with...

    Generac GP7500E Generator

Looking to get a new generator and was curious if anyone has the Generac GP7500E.  (9375 starting watts and 7500 running watts)  I'm wanting something that will pull a couple blowers with no problem.  Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks!

    Lights for Chutes

We recently purchased the below work string lights.  We evenly space them around the top of the chute, zip tying the chord and use the sprial shaped energy efficient bulbs.  Works great.  Just have to be careful when hauling as we smashed a couple bulbs when the show box bumped into it while...

    Sullivan Fans

I'm needing to get a couple fans for the barn and to take to shows.  I'm curious if the Sullivan fans are worth the extra money.  I've been using a couple 20 inch "Garage Extreme" fans from Menards that only cost $45 each, but am willing to buy the Sullivan fans if they are really that much...

Can You Use Black Iron Pipe for Fencing?

While wandering around Menards last night I walked past the black iron pipe in the plumbing section.  I got to wondering if you can use it for fencing.  My idea would be to run it 5 bars across and fasten it to wood fence post every 10 feet or so.  Anybody know if you can use it for fencing? ...

    Ringworm

OK....so I'm not crazy....other folks are having success using the goat trick on ringworm.  Anybody (vets or other PhD's) out there know why or how this works?
