    Newborn calf acting weird

We had a heifer calf born 2 days ago that has acted weird from the start. We had to help her get up and get her nursing. She acted like she was so stiff and when we would try to get her to nurse if we touched her anywhere near the mouth she would just fall flat down. It took awhile but we got...

    Bandwagons and their pasterns...

We've had 2, a steer and a heifer and they both pop on their pasterns very bad. Both out of cows that do not do that at all. Very well made and good looking cattle but can't stand to watch them walk! We have a few more coming this year - sure hope they are not like this!

Genetic Defect - Which is it?

We had a calf born that is what we think is a "bulldog" Achondroplasia. The question I have is - is that condition related to PHA at all or is it a separate deal? The sire is a THC/PHAC and the cow is THF/PHAF. From what I've read the two defects can be similar and people mis-diagnose what it...

    How to firm up manure

Have a group of calves we are getting ready to sell this fall. Their manure is loose and messy. They are on a pretty hot ration with plenty of grass hay. Is there anything we can add to firm them up? They show no signs of being sick, just loose. Does drinking large amounts of water have anything...

    Newborn calf back legs...

Have a newborn calf that it almost looks like her joint right above her hoof is curved out the opposite way. Like she wants to walk on the outside of her toe. She gets around okay, is this something that will straighten out eventually?

What to use on First Calf Heifers

What bulls are safe for first calf clubby heifers? No Worries, Jesse James? Also, thought about using a new Angus bull called, Slider.

    Heifer won't accept calf

The new cow is bonding quite well and the calf is doing great. I don't believe the heifer had any trouble calving. At 3am check she showed no sign and at 6am there was a 55lb calf up running around, just had not been licked off. Time will tell if we keep the "dumb" heifer or not.

    Heifer won't accept calf

We switched the calf over to the other cow that had lost her calf. She has been doing well with letting the calf nurse, will probably take a couple days to get adjusted to her new black calf - her own calf was white.  :) After switching the heifer with the cow, the heifer went back into the pen...

    Heifer won't accept calf

Had a first calf heifer calve about 6 days early. Found a wet baby calf wandering around the pen and the heifer showing no interest in the calf. Put them into a box stall by themselves and tied the heifer up. At first she did nothing but kick and jump around, but finally settled down and the...

    Texas Tornado

Real surprised there have been no calf reports yet, at least from what I've seen. He seemed very popular last year!

    Can't get calf to nurse...

Judging by the cows udder, it doesn't look like she's nursed, but it's possible I guess. The calf definitely has a full look, but after all she went through right after birth, just not sure she gets the nursing thing. Will keep an eye and see if she possibly nurses on her own. That would be great!

    Can't get calf to nurse...

Have a calf that was born around 5 am. She never got up and seemed to be chilled. Brought her in the house around 7:45 am to get warmed up. Tried to give her colostrum but she wouldn't suck the bottle, so we tubed her. Also gave MultiMin. Around 11 am she was up and ready to go back out to mom...

    Sick calves..Help!

The first calf was 2 months and the one we lost was 6 weeks old. We did have an autopsy done on him and the preliminary showed no signs of the cause of death. The calf that is sick now is about 3 weeks old. Weather has been a roller coaster, that probably is a factor. Calves do have dry, warm...

    Sick calves..Help!

We've had very healthy calves go from fine to acting lethargic and not nursing the cows. Caught one and treated him and he recovered, lost another one. Now we just noticed another acting the same way with a temp of 105.1. They are not coughing and no scours. What could be the issue?

    Eye Candy Dead

Don't get me wrong, I like the bull, but find it funny that he happened to just die right around when people buy semen for spring breeding, right when Trausch's are having an online sale and selling a bunch of it starting at $75. Honestly, I thought the bull died last year because I bought semen...

    Is this heifer close?

I have a heifer that we AI'd, but about a week later she seemed to be in standing heat again, so we just put her in with the bull. If she had bred to the AI date she would be due in 3 days and she is looking like she could have a calf anytime. I also felt inside and felt a head and both feet...

    Blood in calves stool

The calves that have been noticed with some blood are 6 days old and 12 days old. I have seen baby calves do this before and they never seemed to have problems, but it's just that I have noticed a few more doing it this year.

    Blood in calves stool

The past couple days I have noticed that a few calves have had blood with their manure. They do not act sick at all but I am a little concerned about it. What could this be and how can it be treated? Can baby calves be given Sulfa boluses?

    Simmental Calves

What are you looking to do with these calves? I do not think they would make show quality animals, but as far as feeding them out they would work for ya.
