Ok, I do not really fit everybody else's situation. I live at 7300 feet and it is always cold at night. Cockroaches do not survive here. I have a huge phobia of bringing home bugs in my luggage from traveling all over, (especially warmer climates!) Always freaked about finding roaches in my dirty clothes from being in a hotel room for a week!
This has worked for over 20 years of my phobia.....
I NEVER bring my suit cases in the house when I get home. I usually leave the bags outside overnight. I sort my laundry on my back outside porch. I bring one load of laundry in at a time and they immediately go into a hot washer. If I am using a duffel style bag, I wash that too.
I had an acqaintance that got bed bugs at the Colorado State Fair....and trust me, you will know if you have them. They are blood suckers. You will notice some blood on you or the sheets. They are not going to wait around for a ride in your bag. Bed bugs must have a blood meal and they will take it from you when they can. It will leave a red itchey spot where they feed. Read up on it.
