Definitely with Dan and SD on Cattlemans in the Oklahoma City Stockyards - it's been a family favorite for as long as I can remember.

Also gotta go with Big Tex on H3 in the old Fort Worth Stockyards - I've only been there once (during the Fort Worth steer show this spring), but I was very impressed with both the food and the service.

On a more local scale, there's a little steak/Italian place called Niccolai's just north of Anadarko, Oklahoma. As good a steak as you'll get anywhere, and the service simply cannot be beat.

Now, are we gonna have to start new threads for burgers, barbecue, and  Mexican? Oh yeah, and maybe catfish too...

what about pies? The Plaza Inn in Mt Victory, OH was recently voted as having the best pies in Ohio. Their coconut cream is to die for!

There's a place called Patti's on the Pier or Patti's 1880 Settlement . It's in TJ's part of the world. They are known for their 2" thick pork chops, flowerpot bread with strawberry butter & their awesome pies.

Doc, That Ruth Chris across the road from Vandy in Nashville is pretty good.

The Cattleman's at the Stockyard's in OKC would also rank high on my list.

The Saltgrass Steakhouse in Galveston, TX has some pretty good groceries as well.

Locally, Longhorn Steakhouse in Tifton, GA is my favorite.

Does anyone on here live close to Winnie, TX and can tell me if the great AL T's is still open ? Not a steakhouse but had some of the best cajun food I've ever had.

A big second that AAOK on Cattleman's in OKC. Eat the steak soup for lunch and you won't need supper.

In Kansas City it's the Hereford House, especially if I'm am entertaining clients. Also Stroud's has a great steak even though they are known for there chicken.

In Dallas I go to Paul's Porterhouse.

In Minneapolis Manny's Steak House (for you angus enthusiasts checkout their website http://www.mannyssteakhouse.com/)

In Wichita, Red Bean's Bayou Grill, I know its a cajun joint but my wife has the filet and loves it and their Prime Rib is to die for.

For chains:
Upscale it's Ruth's Chris Steak House. Otherwise it's Texas Road House, just don't like the wait time.

And many, too numerous to mention, good places I have eaten when traveling.

What do you know?  We DO have something in common.........we both like to EAT GREAT FOOD!!!

You can get me to agree to anything over great food! :)

Is there anyone like me who gets annoyed if they ask if you want steak sauce when they bring out the steak? To me it's like saying they didn't do a very good job with the steak so cover it up with this!

Don't get me wrong I like steak sauce on my burgers and stuff but not on my ribeye. ???

I'm w/ you SD. I also hate it when they preseason the meat. Makes me think they're covering up something. Steak sauce belongs on hamburgers only!

Personally I like Jim Beam steak sauce. Great on meatloaf or a dry roast. And just heavenly on Deer burgers.

(The above aforementioned steak sauce is not an endorsement of the brand's other product offerings. Such consumption should be left to off world limitations of 21 solar years for most sentient beings.)

Nothing like home grown beef, secret family rub and the back yard grill!  But if I'm going out for steak here's some of my favorites..
1. the prime rib at the Outback
2. Clicks @ pawnee, ok
3. Lucille's @ mullhal, ok
4. Rusty Barrel @ ponca city, ok
5. Cattleman's @ okc
These are all close to home, and to be honest, I've eaten steak at a lot of places, and only one makes me want to head back there and I can't even remember the name of the place.  It was near college station and was just a little hole in the wall but the steaks were great and the servings were HUGE.  Othere than that place I think the best steaks in all the land are in OKLAHOMA!  (clapping)

I always enjoy reading Livestock Plus because they have some of the steak/food places he's been to. Some sound really fantastic!  ;D
What are the best steak places have you been to? Not the big chain places like LoneStar or such but real steakhouses!

I loved the steaks at a hole in the place in Danville, IL called Howl at the moon. You get to cook your own on a grill. The garlic toast could also be grilled. There was another place in Crawford, IN but for the life of me I can't remember. I don't like my steaks w/ seasonings, just give me a steak that came from the steer. I also like mine medium rare. Not bloody but pink enough to get juices.

What's your favorite?

Jackson,  Wyoming, in the restaurant downstairs in the Cowboy Bar.  Steaks to die for.  New Lothrop, Michigan, Gracie's.  HUGE steaks (not that any of need HUGE any more!) and real good.  Definitely a hole-in-the-wall place.  The Exchange Bldg at the NWSS Grounds in Denver.  History and good beef all rolled into one!

Not a big fan of the 5th quarter but it'll do in a pinch, I prefer Texas Roadhouse
not just a steakhouse, but Ralph and Cucos in Shreveport is awesome.
For something quick and easy in the southeast Steak Out is pretty alright for takeout steak.
Kona Ranch is OKC is ok as well
The best steaks I have eaten have been in the south.

DLD some of the best catfish I have had is on 70 west of Ardmore, can't remember the name of the place

Some one mentioned mennonite food; if you are ever in Perry, GA for the GA Nat'l or any other event try the Oil Lamp. It's about 3-4 minutes from the fairgrounds and they have great affordable food.

The Hoffbrau is pretty good, too - forgot about that one.

I think I know the catfish place you're talking about, but I can't remember the name either - I was there once and liked it, too.
I like Catfish Charlies just west of Decatur, TX about as well as any - I think there's one in Weatherford, TX, too...

Catfish O'Harlies is pretty good.  There is a catfish place in either DeQueen, Arkansas on the east side of the road that is pretty good, it might be in Mena again the name slips me.  Bill's Catfish is the name as the place outside of Ardmore, there is also one in Waurika.  Another place that is pretty good is the Cagle's steakhouse outside of Lubbock.  If you are ever in Louisiana at the Coushatta casino go to the south end of the town and eat at Fausto's

Shortdawg, I visit Winnie a couple of times a year to do some duck hunting with a college buddy who is an outfitter there.  Yes Al T's is still open and has moved into a larger facility, great food and definitely camouflage is required in their dress code.

my favorite steak dish is beef wellington (a rarity).    it's pretty rare as it's annoying to make and some recipes have foie gras on it and since people like different amounts of it still visible, people can get pretty finincky, which of course if i'm going to pay for a steak, i am.

i've eaten at ruth crist's (sp?) a couple of times.  to me, the steaks are a little too buttery distracting from the taste and the side dishes could use some improvement.

i like a shallot/wine clarified butter reduction sauce that's not salty, which should come from the meat not the sauce.

side dishes that are hard to come by are beets and greens like chard

to me this is the ultimate and is the penultimate form of a wrapped type meat dish which europe is fond of, but in this case the meat needs NO pounding.

Telos knows A LOT about this.

my livestock coach in college (i didn't make the team) once was asked if he needed sauce for his steak at a steer futurity banquet and he said "i hope not".
