I also find it "odd" that when you look through semen catalogs there are no bulls that weigh over 95 pounds. And many are in that 85-90 range! Yet, many of these bulls will throw HUGE calves.
I honestly think most are not weighed, and those that are, have a scale that stops at 90! And then theres those that list no birth weight at all, which really makes me wonder! Maybe those are the same people who do not have a proper calander!! (You know, those that months only have a 1-4, and have every other month listed!!
With that in mind, when using any bull, I also look at the total pedigree of the bull (the theory that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree is true with critters too!). I also consider what female I am breeding it too (they are half the equation).
I am glad a lot of folks like to try those "new up and coming bulls", as I like to wait and get first hand opinions from people who have actually used him, and not someone saying "his birth weight is ok. He came out alive. Should be ok. or "I read it on the internet board that he worked...." I like first hand experience stories!
