Calf's back legs weak

What causes the back legs to not be strong enough to hold the calf. We had a calf last night and his legs are knuckling. We are going to put splints on them and seems to work well, but I dont understand why this happens.

How is your mineral program?

I would give him a dose of injectable selenium if you have not done so allready.

He is a lot better tonight then he was in morning, he is almost fine and we gave him selenium and vitamins AD. We hope that wont hinder him later on because he is a really nice calf
