Cattle Poem

I heard a poem on Red Stiegals radio show a few years ago about a sentimental old rancher trying to decide whether to ship an old cow or not. The only line i can remember was that she "the cow" would check the gate each day to see if it was shut.  I was wondering if anybody has heard this and what its called?
