Last week while clipping a production sale I slipped on some ice and dropped my laser wheel and bent the shaft on the motor. Thinking I would replace the motor with a new one, but when I took it apart he motor says it is a split phase. I've never had experience with a split phase motor, will a standard motor work?

What was your operating voltge on your old moter?  I'm a journeyman lineman and I've never heard of a split phase moter.

There are 3 electricians working with us on our job today. I ask them and none of them had ever heard of a split phase moter either. Guess I'm not much help.

A split phase motor is basically a single phase motor that is disigned for a 3 wire electrical system.  The only difference between this motor and a typical single phase motor is the absence of capacitors.  Usually the split phase motors have very little starting torque vs a capacitor start motor.  Any single phase motor of the same rating should be fine to replace this motor.
