I was disappointed in the sale at Fort Worth. Animals seemed to sale cheap to me. Only one had its PHA and TH status told and it sold very well. I know one of the reasons for the sale not bringing a great deal, the sale was dumped in a lap of a friend of mine, because the person who was to organize it and handle the ads and all came down with cancer and the whole thing came to my friend in mid- November. He says it will all go better next year.
I enjoyed seeing the animals. There are some real good ones there. I watched some of the Angus breeding stock show. I hated to miss the show of the Maines on Sunday but I cannot be at two places. I met many people that I had corresponded with or bought cattle from and had a great time. Zane and Traci from ZNT are a lovely (beautiful) couple with a precious (very beautiful 3 year old daughter.) Jack Jabara (Telos) likes to talk as much as I do and we had a great time together. Mike Morris (I think he is the 7th Mike Morris) had some great cattle and is a wonderful young man. His father and helpmate are great people too. Calvin Fryar and Jerry Gibson (from whom I have purchased cattle) were great to visit with. Calvin and Mike Morris's father were among the group of cattlemen who went on a trip together to look at Maines and imported the first FB bull to the USA. Eddie Moore and his wife are in charge of the Texas young people in the Texas Maine association and are a very lovely couple. Brent Langman was much younger than I thought from his voice on the phone and has a ALI son that is the real deal (ELE Tyson). Had I the money he would have been mine. Speaking of bulls, I told Traci the some objected to buying a bull by the name of "Triple X" but they got the name from his sire, "Hard Core." I feel the Core family named him after them did not have the sex oriented stuff in mind, but who knows. I told her if anyone asked she could tell them he was named after large clothes, Triple X for us big guys.... she laughted. I am going to see some of his offspring in March and will report back to those who are looking for good bulls with calving ease. Their sale is March 30th.
I met other people whose names now escape me, but they loved their cattle and it shows as they will tell you all about them.... I loved it....
