Hi I am halter training a little shorthorn heifer and left my barn for memorial weekend and decided to leave her in her pen (12x12) with a rope halter on so my friend feeding could catch her if needed, I went out tonight to feed and was giving her a bath and noticed her halter on so tight and quite low on her nose, I decided to pull it up only to see this huge indention on her poor little nose and face, i have no idea what to do to keep form permanently damaging her muscle or tissue or hair. I put her up without the halter and will check on her again in the morning, but out of all the cattle I've raised I've never had this issue, and am wondering if there is anything I could do to help her nose return to normal, I am heartbroken and will try anything.  :'( :'( :'(

Basically all you can do is leave the halter off when  you're not working with her.

Also, the next time you feel like you need to leave a calf with a halter on overnight, at least do it with a ring halter so it won't stay tight on their face. There's a chance it'll slip off, but it's better than it scarring up their face.

Just as a note, if you left her like that from last Friday? Ish until Wednesday night, you shouldn't leave a halter on her or keep her in a pen that small. Make other arrangements for her care or wait to halter break her until you have more time.
