New to forum thank you for having me. Will try and make this short. Poss date 9/13. Weight 620. 8 hr trip from pick-up back to the house. Week after arrival started a fever and cough. Took care of that and had fever down to normal with in 2 weeks (Draxxin then Nuflor Gold). Highest it got was 105.3 in that time period. He nvr stopped eating or drinking the whole time. Eating 22lbs a day (Purina fitters Edge and wants more) and weighed 790 Sunday (170lb gain in 48 days). Ive had this happpen with shipping before but not to this extinct. We have layed off him, not really walking or tying up to insure full recovery. When I feed in the morning (4:30 am) his coat is wet, like almost sprayed with a hose but His temp ranges bwt 101.5 and 103.5 any given day. The problem is he's still heavy breathed. Walked him yesterday and he got winded. Layed off today and just tyed him up the fence. Nose even with tail head in front of fan. Within 10 mins he had his tongue sticking out. I untied and he walked to the fan with his mouth open, tongue out and coughing for 5 mins or so then back to normal. Our temps are low 70's day 50-60 @ night. Question is... Anything else I can do except wait?  Have a show in 3 months and feel we can't even work him. Frustrated

we have not had great luck with respiratory infections if they become chronic... we have had a few posted and Mycoplasma Bovis ,Mannheimia, and Pasturella have all been implicated.. It is difficult to know which comes first

at necropsy the lungs are collapsed and hemorrhagic with pus in them with way more than 1/2 the lung volume not functioning

Nuflor should be the best answer as it at least lists activity against Mycoplasma.. I would treat him with repeat doses at 6-7 day intervals if he still has fever or exhibits respiratory symptoms but I am not confident that that will work... it just seems to be what we have that might work

I would add Banamine if he is febrile or seems "sore"

Respiratory is really really tough.  We ended up slaughtering the best one we have ever owned a couple years ago.

Get in touch with whoever the calf came from and ask them for advice.  Some of these big club calf traders know some pretty good tricks.

If he is eating hay, put him on a different hay.  Move him into a different pen.  Get him away from other calves if they live together.  Make sure that he is not allergic to something.  That was ultimately what was wrong with our steer a couple years ago......to the best of our knowledge.

See if you can get any Tripelennamine.  I believe that the drug has been taken off the market but there are a couple of approved drugs that can be given simultaneously and result in the same drug that Tripelennamine was.  It is an antihistamine.

Late responding. Had a different Vet come out Thurs 11/5 for 2nd opinion. His temp that morning was 105. Vet listened to his lungs for a good bit. Said there was nothing wrong there. Sounded healthy and clear. Took a blood sample. Next day said he had Pyelonephritis either in the bladder or kidney ( would be able to tell with a urine sample). <<<<I've never heard of such a thing. Hit him w Nu Flor Gold Thurs 11/5 and again Tues 11/10. So far so good.
