We have a heifer that we are having trouble getting to eat.  She is a friends' show heifer that when he first got her she ate beautifully.  They kept her at their ffa farm where she stayed in a 12' x 12' pen all the time except when the girl walked her and worked with her and it was everyday.  Then all of the sudden, the heifer just quit eating.    We have tried everything from probiotics, changing feed. feed additives and we even had him bring her to us where we kept her with our show heifers and fed her with them.  She ate but not agrressively.  We have taken her temp and it is normal.  We got her to gain some of the weigh that she lost, but he came and got her last night and the heifer did not eat.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  The heifer is too good not to try and get her to eat.

Does she have a turn out pen? I know we will have periods of time were our heifers have to stay inside during bad weather or pasture conditions, and they slow down on eating, even with daily exercise. Try purinas Pre conditioning chow mixed half and half with the show feed, they take to that stuff like candy.

While we had her, she was turned out all night with the rest of the show cattle and after we fed in the morning they were turned together in a run of pens. Exercise not a problem.

I would try taking her back to just plain grass hay for a couple of days and then reintroduce feed slowly, go back to whatever feed she ate to begin with and give her what she'll clean up, stick to that feed until she is back to eating, switching her feeds around is the worst thing you can do for her.

What does she bed her with? Straw?
becuase that heifer might be eating her hay and her straw and therefore has too much in her and wont eat the grain.
Just a suggestion.

We appreciate your suggestions but we have tried the B12 and probios.  She is on her orginal feed that she was on when she was originally introduced to feed.  We are at our wits end.  All suggestions are welcomed,
