Have a Churchill Sensation heifer who is just shy of 2 years old calve 3 days ago, a week early, and she is an excellent mother but seems to be struggling to keep up milk production for her calf. Started her on a 20% range cube to bump up protein. Anything else I can/ should be doing to help her out? Can her age or early calving be playing a roll in this or will she always be a poor milker?

Thanks

Some start slower than others. How do you know she's not producing enough? Is she just on hay and range cubes?

We had a Believe In Me heifer that milked about a cup a day.  She went to the sale barn to pay for milk replacer and the calf gets a bottle a couple of times a day.  Her dam was a really good milking cow.  Don't waste your time trying to get milk out of cows that don't milk -- you will just perpetuate your problems.

Some heifers and cows for that matter take a day or 2 to come into their milk. Give her a little more time.
