Just over 20 counting calves. The past 2 years though we have weeded out cows that arent producing, won't breed, won't milk, and the loony toon cows. Things have worked out better for us this year and the long run. We had 10 AI calves, 4 were $2000 + types and the rest replacement heifers, plus some good herdbull replacements and freezer beef. Someday I'm hoping to be in that 70-100 range with ET stuff going on

Used to run about 50, but downsized to try to produce better quality. Only have 20 now

Herd size is a moving target in our herd right now. Hope we can keep 30-40% of the cows but not looking good. If they miss to the AI breeding, they hit the trailer.  Any trouble calving, they go on the trailer.  Calves out to the clean-up bull rather than ET, you and your new baby get a ride to town. Make my wife mad, your done around here and my day is messed up also.  At least most of the ET's have been heifers and I flushed for replacements.

35 breeding age females, about half what we had a few years ago.  I have almost that many bulls as I like to have each pair legally married.  Really, I always try to keep a few extra bulls on hand.  You'd be surprised at how many times over the years friends have called with bull problems and I've been able to help them out.
