My cow base is Mark Donald so I don't know that he would niche with your cows the way he did mine. I have yet to see what I would call a bad calf out of him and even what I would call the tail end of them where much better than either the Currency or Millsap calves that I have had or have seen, that is my experience I think both bulls are very good individuals. Outcross gave me both plenty of muscle and guts in my calves, and they performed very well, and the heifers are amazing.
I also have had very good luck with both Yankee and Harland, the Yankee calves were maybe not as stout as I would have liked, but good cattle and the Harland's have done very well and seem to be very complete. I used both Currency and Millsap last year with much anticipation and they have done okay, they have not performed as well as I would have liked. I have some semen left on both, it will stay in my tank this year and I will go back to Outcross. There are a couple of other bulls in the breed that could work very well and I intend on going to see them over the next month before I decide to make any semen purchases on them.
too bad your in Utah... I'd think I could get a good start from there... Did you ever decide anything on the Shorthorn bull? I plum forgot about him due to his unknown carrier status. Also, the emails we discussed with Maine bulls0-- came up on here on a different post.. The Ferris Strutt bull-- I was right in my projection of his breeding ability...
