I used Okie Dokie before the test was out several years ago....won't use him again. He did downsize but didn't clean up fronts. I used JPJ this year so will be able to report in about 3 weeks, but have seen several and they were moderate framed (5.5-6) and very clean through the neck and brisket.
And yes, Okie is a PHAC and JPJ is clean, that alone would make my decision!!! (clapping)
I bred a limi cow to JPJ and she is due Feb 27. I will let you know how it worked, but knowing yours is a frame 7, I would DEFINATELY use JPJ. He will decrease frame more than Okie Dokie. Are you breeding this spring?
On a frame score 7 I would definitely use JPJ. He will downsize a score or two, and add muscle, style, soundness, and hair. I attached a pic of my boy's JPJ steer in case you missed him on the last post. He has done well for us all year.
Thanks DL ! Both have done a good job all year. That's my oldest and he's about to be a teenager so, sometimes his mind is on a few other things besides a JPJ steer. But.......... when he's on his game he can show as good as anybody. He was 6th over all 6th graders in the State in showmanship at the GA Nat'l and I told him just this week that there is no reason he shouldn't win it this week at our state show.
Hey Shortdawg, what was the pedigree on that JPJ steer? I bred most of my Double Vision, Xrays, and the like to him to still try for showsteers while breeding clean. Does he throw hair type like the Double stuff line of shorthorns or more like the long flat type?
JPJ out of a Navaho Daughter which is a Double Stuff son. I would say you would have a great shot at an awesome steer out of the females you've bred him to. He throws great hair. Our steer has long coarse hair that pops really well.
