I have never used it on my own cattle haven't had the need but I work at a vet clinic and cattle people use it all the time on commerical and show cattle they say it gives the slower growing cattle a jump start and some people use it as a preventive method just to make sure they are covering all area's. Everyone that gets it has a differnt method. We also use it when we have a cow or calf down we hit them with the recommended dose along with other medication. Its like a protien tub in a syringe for the most part.. If you were to use it I would check with a vet to make sure its something they think you need to use..also good when breeding.jmo
I used it this year on 6 recip cows, when i put the CIDRS in i gave them a shot of it and all six took when we put the eggs in, so im pretty impressed with it!
I have been using it for a few years with my prebreeding shots and it is 1 cc per 200 lbs for cattle over 1 year, I think it is very useful. Where it shines is in the commercial hiefers I breed for other people that haven't had the best minerial, better heats with it.
Griswolds endorse it and say it helps conception rates and # of eggs on donors. I'm trying it this year on show cattle and everything prebreeding. I have a friend who also swears by the Mineral Max 2 which is a similar product.
I use Min max II as part of my pre breeding regimen and I'm a believer in how it works. You'd have to read the label but on min max II the injection takes a month to take effect.
Multi Min 90 recommends a shot 4 weeks before calving and 4 weeks before breeding. 1 cc/200 lbs in cattle over 2 years. 1cc/100 lbs in 1-2 yr old cattle, not sure what calves were when I looked at it, but recommended 3 doses per year for bulls and replacement heifers.
I dont mean for this to sound dumb but... does the time its adminstered to when you breed the cow make a big difference?
I am also thinking about using this for the first time and I was just going to give it when I put cidars in. I know there is a big club calf operation that used it around here last sumerl on their donors and it made a huge improvement to the amount of eggs they got.
I figured if it gets one cow to stick that normally wouldnt have then it has paid for itself.
This is our first year using it. So far highly impressed. Some of our cows that are hard to catch bulling have been coming in really hot. Every cow is the pasture is fighting the gomer bull to get at them. It has made heat detection really easy so far. As far as conception rates, we will see in a month or two.
Even at $5 per head another 10% or so on conception in a largely AI operation would make a big difference, on in a small one if it made the difference on just 1 cow.
