CWC,  if you search there will be a few threads on this subject. One was not too long ago.

That said, it can really depend on a lot of factors, but most would say to be certain to vaccinate for clostridium.  Many - myself included - use Alpha 7 on newborns.

I also give a probiotic paste at birth (several brands to choose from),  Inforce 3 nasal, and 2 to 2.5 ml of BoSe.

I always thought this post was extremely thorough.

Hello Shawn -- sorry this has taken so long -- been pretty busy out here!

We use a spring AND fall vac program on the cows.

In late gestation -- no more than 30 days prior to calving, I give the cows a dose of Scour Gaurd 4-K-C along with a booster of Vision 7 or 8 with spur.

I use Bovi-Shield Gold 5 or better after calving in the spring, at LEAST 30 days prior to breeding them back -- that is very important.

In the fall I come back after weaning and booster them all with the killed form of the same viruses -- usually I use Cattlemaster 5 -- which is safe for pregnant cows.

Make sure you are getting the most current version of Lepto -- the Hardjo Bovis is a real killer -- if yopu have lots of deer around -- make sure you get that in there.

Calves -- I only use a Shot of Alpha 7 at birth here -- but we have been very diligent with the clostridiums on the cows as listed above.

At 30 days, I booster the calves with Vision 7 (Do not use Alpha again) and possibly give them TSV-2 (Pi) and meybe in wet years a shot of Pink Eye vaccine -- this will help later when the weds get big and start causing problems with eye damage.

When I wean, 2 weeks prior to weaning I give the calves a dose of Cattlemaster OR Triangle 5 - make sure it is killed strain virus.

At weaning, I give the calves all a dose of Bovishield Gold 5 LV -- and they are done. EASY right!! hehehe
