This is a Charolais Limousin cross calf born 2/24/2012. He is sired by the bull in my avatar. Would he do for a slick show steer?

Looks like a good doing, growthy kind of steer. To answer your question, that depends on how competitive your show is and how competitive you want to be there. I don't think he's a "show steer" and steers don't usually get prettier or more showy as they get bigger. Just from how he's bred (Charolais x Limousin), I would expect him to get pretty big/heavy before he ever gets close to being finished as well. Not trying to be critical...just offering an opinion. If I wanted to be in the hunt, I'd look a little further.

If you decide to make a go of it, feed him a 5-6% fat feed from day 1 and he should finish as best as his genetics will allow as soon as possible.  That's how we always feed char cross calves for shows and we have yet to have one that doesn't finish when we need them too (usually 12-1300 lbs depending on the calf and age)
