Peeling brand question

We just purchased a heifer that's been branded. The brand is starting to peel off leaving raw looking hide under it. My question is what's the best way to treat this? Leave it alone or use something on it? I've heard using grease or oil but I don't know what kind. Any help is appreciated.

Burn or freeze brand? If it is a freeze brand just leave it, but don't peel it. Let it fall off on its own. Not sure about burn brands.

Leave it alone.  Hundreds of thousands of calves hot branded every year with no treatment and they do fine.  It is supposed to leave a scar.
