New member here, although I have been reading Steer Planet for several years! My daughter had 3 show calves this past season; all looked to be very sound and were from different sellers. We had "expert" advice when selecting them--not the seller's opinion. After a few months, all 3 started popping their pasterns. We tried all kinds of supplements: selenium, Replamin, selenium bolus, Natural Stride, etc. Had somewhat of an improvement, but the steers ended up not doing nearly as well as they should have because of their walk. My questions are:
1. Since all 3 calves seemingly were sound, does this sound like there is a problem in their pasture or feeding? Like some essential nutritional component is missing?
2. What can we do to prevent this in the future?
3. We give Corta-Flex HA 100 for joint lubrication. Is this effective, in general? (Didn't seem to help us too much)
4. What joint supplement is the most recommended?
Thanks for any advice!
