My vets didn't tell me about the virgin bull exemption.  I could have saved some time and $100 if I had known.  I just heard this morning about a Shorthorn/Suffolk breeder from Oregon that was passing through our fair state with his truck and livestock trailer.  He got stopped, it was determined that his GVWR required a CDL, which he didn't have.  His fine was going to be over $6,000.  He sold the trailer to somebody local and was allowed to drive home without it.  Another person was stopped on his way home from Kentucky, in Indiana I was told, and had to pay a stiff fine.  He did not have his CDL, had to call home to a relative that had one, and that person flew in to drive the truck and trailer.  In the meantime, somebody else had to come get the sheep.  The original driver was threatened with jail time.  A noted purebred Suffolk breeder that works in our office told me about these incidents.  This is serious business.

In my original post I did not ask if he was going to be "too big" I just asked if he was significantly bigger or larger framed than the Ramrod sons. I was just curious, this bull is the first Ramrod I have ever seen in person, and I have never seen a Pioneer to my knowledge. I guess I was just wondering for future reference if  the Pioneers are usually always larger framed than Ramrods? As far as our cow herd goes if the Pioneer son got to a mature weight of 2500  lbs that would probably be "too big" for some of our smaller cows that weigh in at 1200 lbs.  No big deal I was just curious.

As far as the Iowa DOT goes I think it is ridiculous that in such a strong agriculture state they are so strict on Livestock hauling. I know that ignorance is no excuse to break the law, but you would think that Iowa would work with surrounding states and determine what is a fair rule for weight, license, etc. Heck why couldn't there be a national standard that was the same in every state? A $6,000 fine would prevent me from ever driving through that state again!!! I know every state needs the money, but at what expense?

I believe he is using PIG LATIN ;) Mark I remember you posted a couple months ago that you just wanted to scream "the Canadians are Coming", but no one was listening. I guess I was listening, and apparently thinking the same thing.

At least one of the DOT 'hits' occurred in Indiana.  The Iowa DOT sent me a map that noted the states with the same or at least similar requirements as Iowa and it included all the states I would drive through for cattle events, such as on my way to NAILE or WHR's sale.  I can't go anywere with my truck and trailer and not be affected and I'm just trying to warn everyone else.  Back to the cattle, I was also told that the Pioneer son was going to be a big bull, but had the depth and volume to go with it.  I guess you could say that would be my preferred style.
