Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a sale of Shorthorn cross heifers and young cows all bred Shorthorn on Dec. 3 at Heartland Livestock Services, Virden, Manitoba, Canada.  These are all 1/2 or 3/4 Shorthorn out of Angus or Sim cows bred to Shorthorn bulls.  There will be aboout 60 to choose from and some will make excellent club calf mothers. At the same time there will be some project steers and heifers for sale privately also.  These will be on display on Sale day, but for sale by private treaty.  Through this sale we hope to get more Shorthorn females into commercial herds.  We have to build the commercial Shorthorn market to ever have a hope of a better position inthe beef business.  The prowess of a Shorthorn mother cow is no secret, but no oneknows where to get them, especially in any quantity.  This is an opportunity, but even at this we have had trouble finding enough heifers to make a sale worthwhile.  60 head is nowhere near enough to filll the needs, but it is a start.  Hopefully it will get Shorthorn mothers into herds where they have never been and at a price that will make both buyer and seller happy.  Hope to see you alll at the Sun Country Sale in Saskatchewan this Wednesday.
