More than likely just fluid on his/her hocks. You can feel it (if not a kicker) and see if it feels like fluid or if it's hard, I would call ur vet. The fluid will come and go. Heat compresses and massaging will help but not prevent if it's fluid.

If it's fluid, my experience is that it will only get worse with weight.  If this is a young calf, I would find another one.  Sometimes they start walking stiff due to the fluid build up.  I have heard of people draining it before a show, but it usually comes back.  JMO
