Survived Fair

We managed to survive fair.  There were times I wasn't sure.   Not sure how we can repeat it.  Was reserve in the pony driving to his sister.  He was reserve Jr. Swine showman, and 3 place overall market.  My niece that I help was reserve with her hog.  Then the boys went to showing steers.  They finished first and second in jr showmanship and the younger was reserve overall.  They finished Grand and Reserve in the market classes.   Here are a few pictures.

Your calves have came a long ways since you last posted pictures of them. Nice Job

Thank You for the kind words.  The calves peaked just about right.  The black calf weighed in at 1336 and the baldy at 1258.  The rib eye was ultrasounded at 13.8 and 13.5 with .6-.8 inches of back fat.  Both went high choice on the ultrasound.  I am very happy with the results.  The black calf was an easy winner but there were the baldy and 2 others that were close for the reserve.  In the end it came down to showmanship and finish on the calves.  The other calves were a notch less done and the kids didn't show them as well.  The baldy calf is a dirty beast to show as he camps out like a lamb on the rear.  He has way too much set to the rear wheels for a show steer but he is what we raised so we had to show him.  He is a May 25th calf so to be ready in 14 1/2 months means he is the kind that can also get it done as a commercial calf, and to be honest that is all he is a commercial calf. 

As to the boy in pink... What can I say he likes pink down to the pink show stick.
