After a week of recovery we are reflecting on our daughters first county fair. I have worked with show cattle for twenty five years and our daughter has been showing for five years but there is still nothing like your first County Fair. Mom and Dad are very proud of her hard work and success.
She started with the pig show with 2 blues. Then we moved into the lamb show. Her speckled face lamb was second behind the eventual reserve grand lamb of the show. Her two black face lambs both won their class and "Larry" ended up res middle weight lamb behind the lamb that won the whole show. Not bad considering my dislike for sheep.
Finally the beef show on Friday. Ended up with reserve market heifer and reserve prospect calf.
The thing that Mom and Dad are the most proud of is her winning showmanship in all three species. It was a GREAT way to spend a weeks vacation with the family!
The market heifer is a RCC Cold Front out of a wmw x Angus cow from the Doherty family in eastern Wisconsin. (Caroline's uncle)
The pigs are also from Doherty's. A big thanks to our close friends at Blumer Show Lambs of Fountain MN for their help with our first sheep project!
