Besides the fact that this is a cruel way to treat an animal what did they think they were accomplishing? I would think such a program would be hard on any marbling and wouldn't it increase the chance of a dark cutter?Earthmover said:I personally witnessed a family hold a steer almost a month. I think you all are missing the point of why they did it. First they paid 10k for the steer. Showed him at the state fair at about 1380. Got smoked at the state and tried to hold him for the county fair, he kept gaining. Imo they really didnt care how he hung or what he graded, they wanted to win. They had a bunch invested and were trying to recoup some of there money by winnning the county fair. Our fair usually gets about 5k give or take for champion. As for cruel, when the Dad would ask the steer if he was hungry he would turn in his stall and bellar, moan and snort. A real sad spectacle to watch. Showing competetive cattle is expensive so about anything goes. So before you all jump all over me on this maybe you should look around and pay more attention to what is really going on at these shows, and no it doesnt happen everytime or all over, but it does go on.Okotoks said:Besides the fact that this is a cruel way to treat an animal what did they think they were accomplishing?
